I'm not an artist: For my 100th post here are five items from Oracle of Ages used during heists.

Five items from Oracle of Ages used during heists.

Switch Hook: While superficially similar to the classic hookshot, the switch hook has one distinct difference that makes in a very interesting item in its own right. When the switch hook strikes an object or enemy, Link switches places with whatever was struck by the hook. Some objects are too fragile to be moved in such a way and break when they arrive at Link’s location. This is a really fun mechanic that could be added to a game, but it would require some finesse as it could be easily abused and isn't very realistic. The switch hook is found in the Skull Dungeon in the current era Symmetry Village. It can only be entered after Link solves the chaos plague the village, but we will cover that when we get to the tuni nut

I probably should have just drawn a menacing meat hook ala the Warcraft abomination for the switch hook, but I am only thinking that now. Maybe I didn’t want to be too obvious then, or I really wanted to try to draw a grappling hook with all its internal perspective angles. I no longer remember.

Where there are walls, there are people looking to get past walls. Grappling hooks have been used for centuries by rogues to slip into manors and estates. While technologically advanced versions of the grappling hook exist, the original is often the most reliable.

Iron Shield: In a reference to the opening of Link’s Awakening, Link is caught in a storm while sailing in the open sea and washes ashore a strange island. When he wakes up, he finds that he has lost all of his belongings to enterprising gecko-folk thieves. To recover his things, he must chase down the thieves who went to ground all over Crescent Island. When he confronts the thief who took his wooden shield, they give Link a more durable iron shield instead of the wooden shield he actually took.

Nomad scavengers are credited with the first use of the duranium bulkhead as an improvised battle shield. As duranium is nearly indestructible these shields are able to survive almost any hazard in the arena. A few of the shields in circulation are among the first few brought to the arena by nomad champions eager for glory.

I'm not an artist: The first five items from the Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages that are artifacts of a secret human history.

Wooden Sword: This is the sword Link begins his adventure with in Oracle of Ages. It is given to him by Impa while she is being possessed by Veran while she is trying to get close enough to Nayru to possess her.

Modern understandings of the evolution of humanity have entirely missed the greatest civilization humanity has ever established. In the time before what is known as the Stone Age, humans living in the most northern extremes established an advanced civilization using secrets stolen from a murdered celestial. With the forbidden secrets, the Hyperboreans could forge blades that would never dull or rust.

Cards: The complete set of items from Majora's Mask

Here is my interpretation of every item from Majora's Mask.

You can find the printable version PDF with the cards and card backs fitted for 8 in. x 11.5 in. here.

You can view all of the completed sets of item cards under the collected tag here

While I can't say that every one of these drawings is spectacular, I am pleased at how much better this set looks than the first one I published. I am almost embarrassed that I even put those early drawings out into the world, but then again growth is the entire point of this blog. I am not the most talented artist, but having this weekly expectation of drawing and posting art has really helped me stick with drawing. You only get better at what you practice.

Next week will be kicking off the items in Oracle of Ages. The theme I sort of fell into with those drawings was the idea of old, current, or futuristic, so I officially make my debut into sci-fi items with some of these drawings.

As always, use my work personally however you see fit, but do not profit off my efforts without my consent.

Thanks for stopping by and, as always, be excellent to everyone.
