I'm not an artist: The first five items from the Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages that are artifacts of a secret human history.

The first five items from the Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages that are artifacts of a secret human history.

Wooden Sword: This is the sword Link begins his adventure with in Oracle of Ages. It is given to him by Impa while she is being possessed by Veran while she is trying to get close enough to Nayru to possess her.

Modern understandings of the evolution of humanity have entirely missed the greatest civilization humanity has ever established. In the time before what is known as the Stone Age, humans living in the most northern extremes established an advanced civilization using secrets stolen from a murdered celestial. With the forbidden secrets, the Hyperboreans could forge blades that would never dull or rust.

Noble Sword: Conventionally, this upgraded sword is obtained at the conclusion of the trading sequence in Oracles of Ages. The last trade nets Link a broken sword that he can take to the Restoration Wall to employ Patch’s expertise to restore the blade to its former glory. Link can also upgrade his wooden sword using the secrets gained from linking a game to a completed Oracle of Seasons game. If he uses those secrets to obtain the noble sword, restoring the broken sword earns Link the master sword instead.

For 10,000 years, the Hyperboreans ruled the northern hemisphere from a city of gardens surrounded by a crystal dome that held the frigid weather out of the decadent metropolis. When the barrier eventually collapsed, so did the Hyperborean civilization. Great storms scattered shards of the opalescent crystal to all corners of the world. Some of these shards were found by stone-age tribes. Sensing the great power within the crystal, the shards were fashioned into sacred tools and totems.

Master Sword: In Oracle of Ages Link can only obtain the master sword by linking a completed game of Oracle of Seasons and passing a secret from an Old Man in that game to an Old Woman to receive the most powerful sword in the games.

All smiths, from the first pioneers in the early days of the Bronze Age to the great masters of the age of steel, have been toiling in the vain hopes of recreating the magnificent blades forged by the Hyperboreans. A scant few examples of Hyperborean weaponry survived the civilization's collapse or the ensuing age of storms. Of the surviving pieces, most are small blade fragments, but the few large enough to still be considered a sword have changed the fate of nations. History has remembered such weapons in myth and legend with names like Shamshir, Excalibur, and Kusanagi.

Wooden Shield: The most basic shield can Link can use in his adventures through Labrynna. Link can purchase this shield from the Lynna City Shop in the current age. If Link loses his shield to a Like Like, he can always purchase a new one.

Hyperborean sites and relics were scoured by the great storm that ushered in the collapse of their civilization. When these rare places are found they are either hidden from the world by those wise enough to know we are not yet ready to inherit the Hyperborean legacy or there is a bitter conflict between those who would use the same legacy to ensure their owner power. Many conflicts in human history that appear to be over control of land or claim to the throne are veiled wars over Hyperborean secrets unheard for millennia.

Some might think that it doesn’t make sense to have the nicest sword be the drawing for the wooden sword. The overarching theme for these drawings was ancient, current, or future. Based on the Hyperborean lore I lifted straight from the Mignolaverse the intact Hyperborean sword is actually the first sword chronologically.

There are about twenty-two more weeks of items to cover all of the items in Oracle of Ages. With the theme including future stuff, there will be plenty of items to fit into sci-fi and near-future games.

Please use my work personally however you see fit, but do not profit off my efforts without my consent.

Be excellent to everyone.
