The second to last set of items from The Legend of Zelda.
Food: An unrealistic hunk of meat on an anonymous bone. It is easy to use this as a distraction or monster bait in the same way it is used in the game. It could also be a snack of healing after taking too many hits, one of the many food items in ICRPG, or a novelty weapon perfect for a flesh eating monster.
Blue Candle: This is a great way to have a small fantasy flamethrower or a weak light for a game concerned with tracking darkness in detail. The black flame could also signify some special property the candle has like burning underwater or in a vacuum.
Red Candle: The red candle is an improved version of the blue candle. The flame it summons can burn down entire trees and clear the way to hidden treasures. The contrast in the image makes me think of both a weak candle barely fighting away the darkness and of a very bright direct light. This candle could illuminate invisible things while shedding no light, shed darkness instead of light, or shine bright with the sun's purifying rays.
Blue Ring: I wanted to make sure a basic jeweled ring was available. This is a simple ring that could serve a variety of purposes. This could be any number or things from a mundane engagement ring to the ultimate artifact at the center of everything. This functions as a ring of minor protection in The Legend of Zelda but there is nothing stopping you from using it as any magic ring. Maybe it's a ring that allows the wearer to summon anything they can imagine.
Red Ring: The red ring is an improved version of the blue ring. I wanted this ring to be more obviously a fantastical ring. I imaged the center stone as a dragon scale bestowing some draconic aspect to the wearer. The ring would be one of many, each tied to a different dragonflight. Generally it is a dangerous prospect to openly wear the remains of a powerful, intelligent, and vengeful species as a trophy, so wear this Ring of Dragon's Aspect at your own risk. Aside from dragons, the ring would work with almost any scaled animal as its power source. Poison immunity from a venomous snake, swimming or breathing water like a fish, the immaculate voice of a mermaid, or maybe the petrifying touch of a cockatrice. You could even have that be a disgusting fingernail and have the ring be some token of love offered by an enigmatic hag.
Next week is the last set of items for the first Zelda game. To wrap up nicely, I will post the six remaining items from this set. There should also be an announcement about my plans to make these cards available in one file that includes card backs for those interested in printing the cards out.
Happy third week of spring.
