Pencil Wand: The first magic many practice is conjuring up fantastical creatures and fabulous places upon a blank page with a simple pencil. Most turn away from such magic, but it has been a great joy to me for most of my life. I am no master, but the act of creation is worthwhile no matter how practiced.

Candle Wand: This unassuming candle burns endlessly and can be lit or extinguished with a mere thought. The bookish mage that keeps this as their wand knows that there are more traditional ways of using magic to illuminate reading rooms, but they loathe the unnatural glow of witchlight.

Spinster’s Wand

Spinster’s Wand: A spinster is an unmarried woman who spins thread, and it is thrown around idly as an insult as it must be the ultimate goal of every woman to be married as soon as possible. This spinster couldn’t be bothered to marry because she was teaching herself to see the invisible threads of magic and spin them into spells, charms, and hexes.

This is another wand from the domestic mage set of wands. I enjoy my wands project alot because really anything could be a wand if you wanted it to be.

Dual Knitting Wands

Knitting Wands: A notorious homebody and accomplished mage was once asked why they spent so much time knitting when they could just use their magic to conjure up finished clothes. They responded with, “the thing that brings you the most joy should be done the slowest, rush the things you hate.”

The Minish Cap: A small needle with a big story.

A small needle with a big story.

Picori Blade: The blade that seals the bound chest was given to a legendary hero of men by the Picori in ages past. It was used to banish a great evil and seal its monsters and demons into the bound chest, ushering in an age of peace. The blade remained in the bound chest until Vaati destroyed it to open the bound chest in his search for ultimate power. Link only ever sees the intact Picori blade during his adventures in the Minish Cap.

Paw Thorn is the name given to this needle, famously wielded by the equally brave and foolish Marai Spicerack. The Spicerack family had always been menaced by Buterscotch, the mouser and resident cat of the house. Instead of stealth and subtlety, as is the way of the Borrower, Marai chose speed and pain, undertaking a campaign of terror that eventually saw Butterscotch bring dead mice to the spicerack as an offering of surrender.

The Picori are a great reminder that your fantasy world can have a nearly invisible race of Borrower-inspired little folk that can be dropped in whenever you need them to be.

Need some seeds stolen out of a pouch? The little folk.

Need an object to have moved since you put it down? The little folk.

Need an entire temple complex to be hidden neatly within a local fountain? The little folk.

Take this as your sign to add Borrowers or Picori or Little Folk or whatever to your world today.

Drewly: Fate cutting shears

Fate cutting shears

Fate cutting shears: These small scissors were forged by an anonymous benefactor as a gift to a child destined to be sacrificed. They are sharp enough to cut through even the strands of fate. Clipping their tether to the sacrifice, the child became a fateless hero, able to steer their own way across the fabric of destiny.

Today is the last day of drewly. A month-long celebration of everything we’ve been able to make. Thank you so much for sharing the month with me and my work.

Now that we are done looking back at what we have made, go out and make something new! Everyone has the potential to create inside of them, nurture that spark by making what you want to see more of in the world.

Spoon: In the hands of most, this is a simple spoon. In the hands of the vengeful, this spoon is a discrete implement of punishment that can cast fear and ill fortune on the wicked.

Fork of Horrible Madness

Fork of Horrible Madness: Just holding this simple-looking fork makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end. It almost whispers to you, but that would be crazy, It's just a fork.

Drewly is inspired by the Fork of Horripilation, a cursed artifact of a mad god.

Horripilation means when your hair stands up on end.

Drewly: Kitchen Knife

Kitchen Knife

Kitchen Knife: Mamma Cassi runs her crew out of her kitchen and she is never seen without one of her big knives. Most people think the knives are just for adding a general sense of danger, and they are, but they are also Mamma's wands. Mamma Cassi is both an accomplished crime boss and a member of a secret coven of witches, both of which require minions and sacrifices.

My wands project continues, and drewly is where a lot of those wands get shared.
