The Minish Cap: Rings of Power

 Rings of Power

Power Bracelets: Wearing these bracelets gives Link the strength of a giant while shrunk down to Minish size. Practically, that means Link has his normal-sized strength while shrunk down to Minish proportions. Link must venture into the Minish sanctuary hidden inside the Hyrule Town Fountain to obtain these bracelets.

This matched pair of gold rings was cast by the last great elven smith during the waning of Elvendom. They were made as a proof of concept for the smith’s true masterwork, the rings that would shake the world to its foundation. While they were made as a stepping stone and given no names, the two amplify their wearers’ innate qualities, making heroes more heroic and villains more villainous.

----------

This is me shoe-horning more Rings of Power into Tolkien’s Middle-earth. It always bothered me that Tolkien didn’t use the first five prime numbers for his Rings of Power sets, so here I am adding the 2 and just imagining there are five dwarven lords and seven kings of men.

Drewly today is my normal weekly item card post, where I post drawings inspired by all the items in all the Zelda games. I am currently posting the items from The Minish Cap. I’ve got complete sets for the first 11 Zelda games and a bunch of other item sets already posted here: https://thespeakingsquid.blogspot.com/search/label/Collected

What is Drewly?

The Minish Cap: An ice pick

An ice pick

Grip Ring: Link must get this ring to reach the top of Mount Crenel. Luckily, there is a business scrub who just so happens to sell this ring about halfway up the mountain. Conveniently, just about where Link’s natural climbing abilities reach their limit. Once Link has purchased the ring, he can climb rocky walls, allowing him to reach the top of the mountain and continue his quest.

This is the ice pick that started it all for the world’s newest summiter of the great peak. The first time they hung from an ice pick stuck in a frozen waterfall, they knew they would be climbing mountains until the day they died. Unfortunately, their jealous climbing partner wanted to be the first person to summit the great peak with only simple tools, and this ice pick in their hands seems like they intend for the world to believe you died in a terrible accident before you could make it to the top.

----------

The grip ring is all about climbing previously impassible mountains, and I didn’t feel like drawing another ring, so that is how you get an icepick for a simple ring.

#Drewly: The One Ring

The One Ring

The One Ring: The one ring of power crafted to gain total dominion over all. This ring is the last thing the dark lord Sauron needs to conquer all of Middle Earth. Also, it's a ring of invisibility.

----------

Drewly is all about posting art that you have already made. Post as often or as little as you’d like. It is a “challenge” to let you celebrate what you have already done. If you post for Drewly don’t forget the tag #Drewly.

See you tomorrow for more Drewly posts.

If you appreciate my effort, consider a donation at my ko-fi.

Be excellent to everyone.

Four Swords: A bonus ring not from Four Swords.

A bonus ring not from Four Swords.

Jurassic Ring: Inside the amber of this ring is a creature that lived in the dawn of life on this world. That piece of history, frozen in in amber and time, is the key to traveling back through time to those ages long before the rise of humanity. We must be careful to only observe as any disturbance might make the time we return to unrecognizable, or worse just recognizable enough.

----------

These bonus drawings were inspired by, but not directly related to, the Gnat Hat from two weeks ago.

I don’t love how the bugs in this perspective turned out, but I am really proud of myself for pushing through and trying something new. I grew while drawing these and I am proud of them for that fact alone.

I don’t just draw items from the Zelda games, I draw bonus items that, I think, create nice sets within my catalog. If you agree or like something else I offer, please consider donating on Ko-Fi if you are able.

Part of being excellent to everyone is identifying what is good about you and being kind to yourself. I’m actively working on that right now which is why some of you may have noticed the “Not an artist” tag and language has started to drop off my work. I may not feel like the most accomplished artist, but I make some sort of art and don’t need to self censor into a lesser category.

Be excellent to everyone.

Seas of Amphora: Five more items from my homebrew campaign

Five more items from the Seas of Amphora

Emesisian Goat: Mammon’s infernal vaults contain an indescribable amount of wealth. Much of it is simple currency from a hundred worlds, but some of the wealth is much more unique. One such trophy is a golden goat idol that ceaselessly streams milk and mead.

Five things from Oracle of Seasons you can hide the evidence.

Ring box L-1: Holding with the elements theme of this item set, the brief I arrived at for the green ring box was an earth themed container.

As a sign of friendship, and a sound business strategy, Vasu the Jeweler gives Link this small ring box upon their first meeting in his Horon Village shop. The box only holds one ring, limiting Link’s options while out adventuring and forcing Link to stop by the store if he wants to swap the ring he is carrying.

For a thief on the go, a fallen log can be an excellent place to stash your questionably obtained goods. Be wary that others don’t see your hiding spot and always know that a badger may just take up residence atop your payday, forcing you to risk limb if not life to recover the package.

Six items from Oracle of Seasons found in the vault of an old mansion.

Blue Ore: Buried in a patch of conspicuous soil in the southwestern wilds of Subrosia, Link must use his magnetic glove to navigate the many otherwise impassible pits that block the way to the blue ore. After digging up this ore and finding the red ore we discussed previously, Link can have the two ores smelted together into the hard ore by the Subrosian Smelter.

Children have dared each other to explore the decaying mansion on the hill for generations. Having had so many visitors, It is a wonder that no one ever found this vault before you did tonight. If those ingots are real gold you are rich.

Cards: The Rings of the Oracles games in one complete set.

The Rings of the Oracles games in one complete set.

The collected set of cards for every magic ring shared by the Oracles games, plus a few extras can be found right here.

Check out the other seven completed sets of cards under the collected tag here.

In looking back through the set, I find that I really liked the idea of the set, but I could have executed the whole thing better. This is probably how everyone feels when they look back on something they made in the past with the wisdom and skill of the present.

I really liked how the tentacle ring, the sign ring, and the set of bomb rings turned out. I am less fond of the power ring series and the rupee rings series. Both of those series feel off and unrefined.

What was your favorite ring?

Next week will be a few items I drew for my home game. After that, I will start posting the items from Oracle of Seasons.

Please use my work personally however you see fit, but do not profit off my efforts without my consent.

Be excellent to everyone.

Not an artist: The final three ring that teach valuable lessons

The final three rings that teach valuable lessons

Inscribed in the band of this ring reads, "And this, too, shall pass away." The ring was crafted by a wise sage who was charged by the ruler of their land to craft a sentence that would always be true, no matter when it was read.

Five rings worn by spies.

Setting the standard for a true modern spy, Rouge is an entirely private espionage agent that is only loyal to their most recent contract. Their expertise for infiltration and disguise as well as their keen memory made them the perfect candidate for their current assignment. They were hired by the Commission to infiltrate a military research center to steal or sabotage the results of a decades-long secret research project.

Five rings that can be used once.

A drop of water blessed by the monks at the abbey of the still reflection held in a glass reliquary. Generally, the ring is worn as a focus for prayer and meditation. In dire circumstances, the reliquary can be broken and the drop of holy water can be used to quickly bless wide areas.

Five rings that have explosive potential.

The wearer of this ring can create small explosives a few times per day. When activated, the bomb appears in the user's hand with a lit fuse. The explosive force is not great, but it is enough to cause real damage to a sensitive target.

Not an artist: Five rings from the Oracles games that mark an end.

Five rings from the Oracles games that mark an end.

Whimsical Ring: While wearing this ring, Link’s sword damage is generally lowered, but some of his strikes hit much harder than usual. Link can find this ring randomly throughout his journeys in Labrynna and Holodrum.

The simple stone is actually the last fragment of a long-dead star. The star was once the sun of the core solar system of a vast interstellar civilization. The greed and short-sightedness of the civilization’s leaders eventually led them to develop a weapon that could destroy entire solar systems, and that weapon was inevitably turned back at its creators.

Not an artist: Five rings from the Oracles games that are double edged.

Five rings from the Oracles games that are double-edged.

Wisp Ring: This ring protects Link from the jinx curse of the wisps. Without the ring’s protection, Link becomes unable to draw his sword for a short time after being touched by a wisp. Link can find this ring randomly throughout his adventures in Labrynna and Holodrum.

This ring was intended to ensure that peace talks could happen between completely hostile parties. When wearing a ring such as this, any wound dealt to the wearer is dealt in even measure to the attacker. It also mirrors wounds dealt by the wearer onto the wearer.

Not an artist: Five rings from the Oracles games that transform the wearer into a monster.

Five rings from the Oracles games that transform the wearer into a monster.

Octo Ring: Wearing this ring transforms Link into an Octorok, but does not give him their classic rock spitting attack. Link can find this randomly throughout his adventures in Holodrum and Labrynna. He can also consistently find this ring in a cave on the Holodrum Plain, or by scoring 350 points in the Lynna Village Shooting Gallery.

This highly assuming ring allows the wearer to transform themself into an octopus. When not in use, the tentacle on the ring writhes and gropes as if it is trying to escape the confines of the band. Rumors circulate that practiced users can independently shift their arms and legs into tentacles without having to fully transform.

Not an artist: Five rings from the Oracles games worn by anime protagonists.

Five rings from the Oracles games worn by anime protagonists.

Blue Joy Ring: Wearing this ring doubles the value of hearts picked up by Link in his adventures. This powerful ring is given to Link by Princess Zelda only after Link succeeded in conquering threats in both Holodrum and Labrynna through a linked game. In Holodrum, Princess Zelda appears in North Horon after Link clears the dangers from the Snake’s Remains dungeon. In Labrynna, Princess Zelda can be found in the Black Tower after Link ventures through the Moonlit Grotto.

Akiko is a bit silly and clumsy, but there is no truer friend in this world or the next. With her Five Hearts as One ring she can channel her life energy into her closest friends so that they can keep fighting after even the most serious injuries. She has to be careful with this power because she could give too much life energy and not have enough for herself.

Not an artist: Five rings from the Oracles games given as famous gifts.

Five rings from the Oracles games given as gifts.

Red Holy Ring: This ring makes Link immune to damage from the rocks spit by octoroks. Link can acquire the ring randomly throughout his adventures in Holodrum and Labrynna, but he can also find it consistently in an undersea cave in Labrynna’s Zora Seas

In lands where dragons are wise and awesome masters of the fundamental forces of the world, the gift of a dragon scale is auspicious. It is almost unheard of for dragons to gift their scales personally. More often, brave or fool hardy adventurers are tasked with tracking down a dragon and securing a scale without angering the great and terrible creature.

Not an artist: Five rings from the Oracles games that provide special protections to the wearer.

Five rings from the Oracles games that provide special protections to the wearer.

Blue Luck Ring: This ring reduces the damage inflicted by beams by half. It can be found randomly throughout Holodrum and Labrynna, but can also be found in the Zora Village in current era Labrynna.

This simple ring surrounds the wearer in a magical shield. This shield provides a nominal amount of protection but is not visible or encumbering in the least. As such, it is very popular among those in proper circles who cannot be overtly seen worrying about their personal safety.

Not an artist: Five rings from the Oracles games you can use to smuggle tools into a secure location.

Five rings from the Oracles games you can use to smuggle tools where they aren't allowed.

Charge Ring: This ring reduces the time Link takes to charge up his deadly spin attacks. Link can find it randomly throughout his adventures in Holodrum and Labrynna.

There are plenty of places that have a hard no weapons policy. While there are many ways to hide knives and stilettos, hiding swords is another matter entirely. This small ring can magically hide a sword in a pocket dimension that can be collapsed by saying the secret command phrase. Unfortunately, the collapsing pocket dimension tends to fling the blade wildly, so you should only use this in case of an emergency.
