Five items from A Link to the Past. Each with an adventure seed from the super powered city of New Metropia.
Blue Mail: The blue mail offers Link increased damage reduction and a cool new pallet swapped sprite. The armor is found in an ice themed dungeon and it really only connects with the dungeon’s theme via the color blue. The symbol on the chest is based on various images from color theory so I’m thinking about colorful as a concept when I see this breastplate.
Rainbow Defender became the first openly homosexual crime fighter in New Metropia almost seventy years ago. The citizens of New Metropia were not always accepting of Rainbow Defender, but they have always defended the rights and liberties of each and every person. Always appearing in their distinctive rainbow colored armor, they are all but invulnerable to harm. Some theorize that the armor has actually been passed down to a new generation allowing the original Defender to retire.
The Radiant Raiment was bestowed to a particularly devout paladin in service of the Searing Light. This crusader of the light was last seen traveling towards Sengiriztan, a land avoided by all but the bravest or most foolish due to its fearsome reputation for being secretly ruled by a vampiric oligarchy.
Zora’s Flippers: Flippers made by the King of the Zora to allow affluent land dwellers to more effectively navigate the waters of the world.
When the bio-villain Extinction unsuccessfully attempted to destroy a protected wetland near New Metropia, he only succeeded in creating a host of sentient mutant animals that could actively defend their wetland home. Not wanting to leave empty handed, Extinction kidnapped a mutating tadpole with the hopes of raising a villainous sidekick. He christened them Tad Lad and submitted them to a rigorous training regime. Being a young mutant, Tad Lad grew fast. So fast in fact that they quickly lost their tail and grew into a full-fledged mutant frog. Tad Lad begged Extinction to allow him to change his name to Frog Boy, but Extinction refused again and again. Having been alienated by their adoptive father, Frog Boy decided to run away from home and strike out as a hero in defiance to their overbearing father.
These supple blue flippers appear to be a diver’s dream. They allow their wearer to breathe underwater and to swim as easily as a fish. Few realize the terrible curse the flippers carry. Those that wear the flippers for too long eventually lose the ability to breathe air and slowly transform into a hideous aquatic monster. As the curse reaches its conclusion, the individual feels a compulsion to leave the flippers in a conspicuous place so that others might find them.
Pegasus Shoes: These magical boots of speed are given to Link by the elder mentor figure to help our hero overcome near impossible odds. That is about as classic as it gets. Link uses them for the first time to knock an important book from a tall bookshelf. As a player training exercise, that is pretty novel.
Lady Luck is supernaturally lucky. She claims the many charms and baubles adorning her costume combine to provide her the unbelievable luck that has made her famous. After adorning themself with as many good luck charms they could steal had no effect, her rival Dead Horse the ghost centaur believes that only one of Lady Luck’s charms has any real power. Dead Horse will stop at nothing to identify and obtain the real charm.
The Galloping Galoshes let you run as fast as a horse at a full gallop. The galoshes have not reached the same notoriety as such footwear as the boots of blinding speed or the seven league boots, but they have helped a at least few owners get where they needed to go in the nick of time. For those interested in a speed boost, they should search out the pale skinned cobbler that makes these boots. The cobbler will not accept money for the boots, instead one must agree to do the cobbler a favor in exchange for the boots.
Big key: These are the keys that unlock unique treasures and open long sealed paths to deadly foes. In A Link to the Past, the big key in each dungeon appear to be identical keys. I did not draw a universal key but rather what I assume is a singular key associated with a specific dungeon and boss monster.
Dr. M. Wzowski was the world’s preeminent arcano-archaeologist before the incident inside the lost temple of Hapexemendios. Hoping to take sole credit for anything discovered in the newly discovered temple, Dr.Wzowski entered the complex alone as the rest of the expedition slept. After not appearing for one week, the doctor was assumed dead and the expedition was canceled. 33 days after entering the temple, the being that was once Dr.Wzowski emerged from the temple carrying a disquieting golden key. The time in the temple had changed Dr.Wzowski. They seemed devoid of any human identity. Instead, a malevolent alien intelligence inhabits the doctor’s body. Assuming the name Yzordderrex, they have tattooed their entire body with eyes and have continually attempted to steal ancient artifacts from the many museums of New Metropia.
This key opens one of the ten seals that keep the dreaded Eye Tyrant locked in a prison dimension outside of time and space. Sealing the Eye Tyrant in stasis was a dramatic undertaking that required cooperation between all the nations of the continent, even as they were on the brink of all-out war. A diverse group of heroes revealed to the continent that the mistrust and malcontent between nations had been sown by the Eye Tyrant with the hopes of plunging the world into an age of war and strife. With the prospect of ware held at bay, the heroes were able to rally enough international support to mount an assault on the Eye Tyrant’s adamantine citadel. The heroes were unable to destroy the Eye Tyrant completely. The ten sacrificed themselves in a ritual that created the seals that banished the Tyrant. The seals were hidden in places of power throughout the continent. The keys were given to the families of the heroes for safe keeping. One key was lost at sea, but the other nine are still held by the descendants of the fallen heroes.
Magical Boomerang: There are two paths leading to the magical boomerang in A Link to the Past. Link can either throw his original boomerang in a fairy’s lake and respond honestly that he threw it when the fairy appears to question if he littered, in the same way the red shield and the golden sword are obtained, or if he can find the magical boomerang in a chest in the village of the outcasts, stealing from the dispossessed.
Boomer-Rainn was not well loved. As a dimwitted, cowardly, and bigoted villain most people can agree that Boomer-Rainn could easily be counted among the worst people to ever gain infamy because of a mask. Upon their untimely death, Boomer-Rainn willed their extensive collection of boomerangs to the town where they grew up along with a large endowment to fund the construction of a museum to contain the artifacts. Through a creative interpretation of the will, the city was able to use the funds to construct a museum that focused on the native peoples of the region, instead of the life and times of Boomer-Rainn. The loophole the city used requires that all of the boomerangs in the estate be housed on site at the museum. Whether the boomerangs are on display or locked in a dusty basement vault was not explicitly stated in the will.
Warglaives are recognizable weapons first forged by the elven blacksmith Azzin Noth. Full sized warglaives require considerable strength and coordination to use. These smaller glaives are used to safely learn the art of using the warglaives. Organizations such as the Illidari, the Turstarkuri witch finders, and the Hellion soul reapers have all adopted warglaives as part of their standard raiment. Association with these groups and their exotic appearance has lent a certain mystique to warglaives.

I am clearly still working on making the adventure seeds short and sweet. I have enjoyed jumping between genres like fantasy, esoteric summer camp, and supers, so I let a few of these get away from me.
