Drewly 2023: What is Drewly?

 Drewly 2023

What is it? Drewly is a month-long art challenge about celebrating all the art you’ve already made. What do I do? Post any art you’ve already made. It can be reposts, unfinished, whatever, but it can’t be new art made for this challenge, and you don’t have to post every day. Why Drewly? Because keeping up with month-long themed art challenges stress me out, but I still want the chance to share my art with others. How do I say Drewly? Drewly (DROO-lai) rhymes with July (JOO-lai) What tags should I use? #drewly #drewly2023 #drewly23

Wind Waker: A scroll of arcane magic

Wind Waker: A scroll of arcane magic.

Treasure Chart: Scattered through the Great Sea are these treasure maps that Link can find, earn, win, buy, or just be given during his adventures. Each chart highlights a specific treasure somewhere in the Great Sea with a pillar of light that disappears when Link finds the treasure.

An arcane scroll of magic written in a magical cipher. Arcane schools of magic rely on exhausting hours of study and memorization to learn the words and rituals that harness magical energies to the caster’s will. Only those with great intellectual skills or aweinspiring natural talents can hope to excel pursuing arcane mastery of magic.

----------

This is the start of a new minisereis in the Wind Waker set. I used the five chart/scroll items to draw a set of scrolls from five different schools of magic.

Also coming soon is my annual July art challenge Drewly. I try to post something that I have already drawn every day of July. Watch out for a lot more posts not relating to the Zelda Item Cards project daily during July.

Be excellent to everyone.

Wind Waker: A silver coin.

 A silver coin

Rupee: The currency of the Great Sea, as in most Zelda games, is the simple Rupee. Ranging in value from the simple single green rupee to silver rupees worth two hundred times that. Link can find rupees all over his travels as treasure, rewards, or simply randomly scattered about.

A large silver coin is colloquially known as a dragon’s scale. The face is a portrait of the Great Dragon of the sky, and the back is a quartered field with the tower of gods and the dragon’s portrait in opposite corners. This was a common coin used before the calamity, but now they are only found in long-lost hoards of treasure.

----------

As the nine pieces of eight had nothing to do with an actual piece of eight, I thought I’d draw a real piece of eight. A Spanish dollar minted after 1497 was known as a piece of eight because it was worth 8 Spanish reales. That is what gets you the coin you see today.

Be excellent to everyone.

Wind Waker: A fool’s bauble.

A fool’s bauble

Triforce Shard 8: In the calamity that flooded the old world and created the Great Sea, the Triforce of Courage was broken into eight shards. This is one of the eight shards that must be reunited to craft the Triforce of Courage. Link can find these shards spread all over the Great Sea. The talking fish can often help him find the shards, though the rumors they repeat are so old that they send you looking for triumph forks instead of the Triforce.

This gaudy bauble is made from half the spoils from the first bit of piracy the fool captain ever did, which speaks to their humble beginnings. The fool captain inherited their key from a fallen captain but chose to transfer the key to a new item instead of keeping the original. No one knew if this transference would break the goddess seal, but the self-important fool cares more about their own vanity than the possibility of releasing a wrathful goddess from an unjust cage.

----------

The ninth and final piece of eight belongs to none other than Captain Jack Sparrow himself. That is all nine pieces of eight. Throw all in a bowl and say the right words and you can release an angry sea goddess to return control of the seas to the fickle whims of pagan gods.

Be excellent to everyone.

Wind Waker: A heavily used cigar cutter.

A heavily used cigar cutter

Triforce Shard 7: In the calamity that flooded the old world and created the Great Sea, the Triforce of Courage was broken into eight shards. This is one of the eight shards that must be reunited to craft the Triforce of Courage. Link can find these shards spread all over the Great Sea. The talking fish can often help him find the shards, though the rumors they repeat are so old that they send you looking for triumph forks instead of the Triforce.

Escaping the bonds of slavery and leading an assault on the port where they were sold was how this pirate captain first held a command. Now the abolitionist pirate raids slavers wherever they can be found and takes a trophy from each ship freed. The first trophy they ever won, a pair of cigar cutters, was their contribution to the seal that locked away the willful goddess of the seas.

----------

The eighth and not final piece of eight belongs to Gentleman Jocard, abolitionist and pirate of the West African coast.

Be excellent to everyone.
