The Minish Cap: Gilded Geese

 Gilded Geese

Pegasus Boots: Link receives the pegasus boots from a cobbler whose work is mostly done by diminutive helpers while he sleeps. These boots allow Link to run at incredible speeds, knock into things with incredible force, and eventually make charging sword attacks after learning the incredible technique.

A rare genetic mutation similar to albinism or melanism is aurism. Affected birds have lustrous gold colored feathers and lay similarly golden colored eggs. These rare specimens are eagerly sought after by collectors for their novelty and by con artists for their ability to fool the masses.

----------

A cobbler being helped by sprites while they sleep is a classic fairy tale reference.

I know these don't depict winged boots, but I wanted to find a way to draw the golden goose for this set. If you need some guidance on how these help in a similar way to the Pegasus Boots, the geese depicted here are giant racing geese that the party can ride like Chocobos.

If you need this goose to really by gold and lay gold eggs, we have you covered with some golden eggs coming up later in the set.

Four Swords Adventures: Winged sandals

 Winged sandals

Roc’s Feather: Holding this feather from the titanic bird known as a roc allows a Link to jump higher and farther than before. Link can accomplish aerial attacks and with upgrades can even double jump. Roc’s feathers are pedestal items which means they can only be found on pedestals in specific levels and must be exchanged for any other pedestal item Link is carrying.

What would you do if you could leap two stories into the air? What if you could fall safely from great heights or even fly? You don’t have to wonder, you can find out if you can get to the sandals at the end of this magical cave.

----------

Jump, fly, and glide items are always my favorite items in Zelda games. This meant I was stoked when Breath of the Wild gave me an always-available glider that gave me permission to leap from the most ridiculous heights.

Four Swords Adventures: Boots of a speedy god

 Boots of a speedy god

Pegasus Boots: These boots allow Links to sprint at great speed. Running that fast allows Link to smash into enemies and objects with tremendous force, jump gaps,  or to shake large obstacles with the collision. As with all the pedestal items, Links must give up their current pedestal item to obtain this new pedestal item and can only use it in the level it was found.

These boots look just like the ones the messenger of the gods wears, except these are old and shabby. How did such famous boots end up collecting dust in your grandparents’ attic? What else could be hidden up here?

----------

After the news that Zelda will be the playable protagonist in Echoes of Wisdom, I saw a comic online that shows Zelda using Wisdom to solve the classic, something on top of a shelf puzzle, by getting something to stand on instead of Link’s smash into the shelf to knock stuff on top off method. Gave me a good laugh. I don’t know where I saw it or who made it, but if you do let me know.

If anyone in your playgroup has an issue with you having a comic book item in their high fantasy adventure, just say these are the Boots of Speed from WarCraft 3.

Drewly 2023: A pair of fungal slippers.

A pair of fungal slippers.

Fungal Slippers: This pair of mushroom sandals leave a pathway of rotting fungal growth behind the wearer. This trail quickly burns away unless the wearer walks slowly and focuses on leaving a permanent trail of decay.

----------

The drawing is more of a joke item, but I think they can actually be fun from a gameplay standpoint. It does offend the part of my brain that says, “no one would actually wear those” but I don’t need to always draw practical grounded objects.

Be excellent to everyone

Wind Waker: An unsuccessful fishing trip from Wind Waker.

Wind Waker: An unsuccessful fishing trip from Wind Waker.

Grappling Hook: The grappling hook is a multi-purpose tool that Link can use while adventuring to navigate difficult wide gaps and high elevations, steal from enemies, or retrieve distant objects. While he is sailing in the King of Red Lions, the grappling hook becomes a salvage crane that can hoist up lost treasures from the seafloor. Link is given the grappling hook by Medli in thanks for saving her from capture by Moblins in the caves atop Dragon Roost Mountain

Fishing trips aren’t the same without your lucky fishing pole. When you forgot your lucky pole at home and had to stop at some side of the road general store to be the very last pole in stock, you knew this trip was up to an inauspicious start. At the end of the first day, you haven’t even had a nibble while everyone else is struggling to not catch a fish every cast. It must be this cursed pole.

Iron Boot: The iron boots magically increase Link’s mass when worn. This securely anchors him to the ground, allowing him to slowly navigate gale force winds and pull over heavy objects that would have normally been resistant to movement. When removed, the increase to Link’s mass instantly disappears allowing Link to comfortably navigate the world without having to worry why just carrying the boots wouldn’t slow him down as much as wearing them. Link must complete the trials of Icicle Ring Island quickly enough to avoid being frozen solid by the island's frigid temperature to earn the Iron Boots.

It isn’t unheard of to catch some trash on a cast or two during a fishing trip. Actually catching a boot like some turn of the century cartoon is pretty rare though. Catching a matched pair of boots, on two different casts, in different parts of the river, and catching nothing else the whole trip means your new pole must have been cursed.

----------

Spring has legally sprung where I am but that doesn’t mean it isn’t frigid today. I can’t wait for temperatures warm enough to enjoy sitting outside in the sun sipping on coffee and reading a book.

The world is full of terrible inequity and great harm is allowed to proceed unchecked. Inject some positivity into the world.

Be excellent to everyone.

Four Swords: Legendary boots of speed from Four Swords.

Legendary boots of speed from Four Swords.

Pegasus Boots: When a Link grabs these boots from one of the item podiums in Four Swords they gain the ability to dash forward at incredible speeds. Unlike many other isometric Zelda games, these Pegasus boots allow for some slight steering once the dash is started instead of just barreling straight along. Like all utility items in Four Swords, these boots are only ever found on item podiums and can only be used during the stage they are found.

For one hundred years, these boots were worn by successive captains of a riverboat that only ever docked once every seven leagues. Over all those years the boots grew accustomed to traveling vast distance between each step on land. Now the boots have an innate magic that rushes the wearer many leagues with each step.

----------

I am rounding the corner on big life events which is exciting but having recently moved I haven’t been able to dedicate as much time to drawing as I would like. With that in mind, I hope I can dedicate some consistent time for that soon and really fill my cup back up after all the positive but draining changes.

Hate is bad. Islamaphobia, racism, and any other us vs them thinking at all are all bad. Growing up with the 9/11 attacks at the center of my childhood was a defining experience. That day changed my world forever. It also centered hate as a motivator for so many of the actions that followed. It made hating others cool again which is something I hope no one forgets. Let’s all work together to dismantle all the hate that is so freely flowing and work to uplift all people to be their best selves.

Be excellent to everyone.

Lucky Charms: Its either a horseshoe or a hand grenade

A lucky horseshoe to ward away some misfortune.

Lucky Horseshoe: Different communities have different traditions on how best to use a lucky horseshoe. Some say it must be pointed open up to catch the luck, while others claim that it ought to be hung pointed down to let the luck fall onto those passing beneath the horseshoe.

----------

In researching lucky charms from around the world I found two explanations as to why horseshoes are lucky. One relies on the iron in the horseshoe to keep the tricksy fey at bay. The other tells a tale of how a blacksmith shoed Satan's hooved feet with such violence that Satan swore to avoid horseshoes ever after.

The US is still punching above its weight class in proving that things are not equitable and just for all people in the country. Fight for racial justice, be excellent to everyone.

Not an artist: Five more items from my campaign

Five more items from my home campaign.

Disturbance of the Peace

This +1 thundering warhammer can greatly amplify its wielder's voice. This can potentially increase the effective range for sound-based effects.

Oddly enough, my players dodged the whole encounter where this was supposed to come up. They have never seen it, but it seems like it could still come up in their adventures on the high seas.

Six items from Ocarina of Time two alchemists would use.

Kokiri Boots: Link’s first pair of boots. These boots somehow fit child and adult Link equally well.

Before becoming known as the Falling-Star Alchemist, Sonya Li was famous for her kickboxing skills. She never officially competed for a title, but those that watched her spar believed she was the equal of any fighter. She earned the Falling-Star moniker with her thunderous kicks enhanced by impressive alchemy

I'm not an artist: Five dangerous toys from Link's Awakening

Five dangerous children’s toys from Link’s Awakening.

Mermaid Scale: The scale of a mermaid given to Link after he has returned the mermaid’s missing bikini top, or her necklace in the tamer US release. This scale opens a secret passage hidden behind a statue of amournful mermaid. Theoretically, the mermaid is morning the single missing scale that holds it back from being a perfect masterpiece.

Emira and Malik were sad when they had to leave their friends behind when they moved to a new town. Nothing could have prepared them for finding a magical dragon scale hidden inside a hollow wall of their new home. This prismatic dragon scale pulled Emira and Malik into a world inhabited by tyrannical dragons and their groveling servitors. Only the boldest or most guileful dragons are able to maintain control of their fiefdoms for long. The draconic overlords constantly play a brutal game for supremacy of the Dragonlands, where their underlings are the disposable pieces. Quetzal, a devious dragon of minor influence discovered Emira and Malik just after they arrived in the Dragonlands. After learning about Emira and Malik’s pastoral home, Quetzal is more than willing to help the siblings discover a way back, if only so they might come to that world as a conqueror.

I'm not an artist: Five super items from A Link to the Past

Five items from A Link to the Past. Each with an adventure seed from the super powered city of New Metropia.

Blue Mail: The blue mail offers Link increased damage reduction and a cool new pallet swapped sprite. The armor is found in an ice themed dungeon and it really only connects with the dungeon’s theme via the color blue. The symbol on the chest is based on various images from color theory so I’m thinking about colorful as a concept when I see this breastplate.

Rainbow Defender became the first openly homosexual crime fighter in New Metropia almost seventy years ago. The citizens of New Metropia were not always accepting of Rainbow Defender, but they have always defended the rights and liberties of each and every person. Always appearing in their distinctive rainbow colored armor, they are all but invulnerable to harm. Some theorize that the armor has actually been passed down to a new generation allowing the original Defender to retire.

The Radiant Raiment was bestowed to a particularly devout paladin in service of the Searing Light. This crusader of the light was last seen traveling towards Sengiriztan, a land avoided by all but the bravest or most foolish due to its fearsome reputation for being secretly ruled by a vampiric oligarchy.

Zelda Items: First five from The Legend of Zelda II: Link's Adventure

Here are the first five items from The Legend of Zelda II: Link's Adventure.

Power Glove: This heavy metal glove could be a powerful gauntlet, part of a set of armor that needs to be reassembled, or an animated hand monster. This could even be a fantasy power fist for those pillaging ideas from the Fallout series
