Wind Waker: Messenger bag with a mission from Wind Waker.

Messenger bag with a mission from Wind Waker.

Delivery Bag: The delivery bag is worn by postal officers in the Island Postal Service. Link is given his delivery bag from Quill, the grandest postal officer of the Great Sea. It is first given to Link so that he can deliver a letter from the chieftain of the Rito to his son. Link uses the bag to deliver letters and to hold items to be traded around the Great Sea.

Each postal delivery officer is charged with the sacred duty of ensuring the packages and letters in their care reach their final destination. It may sound ridiculous to call the role sacred, but remember that mixed among the bills and advertisements are letters written with love and presents between soul mates. Looking at it that way, those regular postal delivery officers are really everyday heroes.

Not all bags of holding or handy haversacks need to look like drawstring pouches or hiking backpacks. This could also just be a nice bag that you need to steal in your urban thief game.

Be excellent to everyone.

Wind Waker: Two very different ways of finding something out from Wind Waker.

Two very different ways of finding something out from Wind Waker.

Tingle Tuner: In the GameCube version of Wind Waker Link is given the Tingle Tuner by Tingle as a thank you gift for getting him out of jail. The tuner is an oddity as it only works if the player connects a GameBoy advanced to the GameCube. This will activate the tuner, which looks like a GameBoy advanced crossed with Tingle himself. The tuner allows the player to benefit from Tingle's interventions. Most of these interventions come in the form of information and hints about the many islands and hazards of the Great Sea.

When you said the motion scanner wasn’t picking anything up, you hadn’t yet noticed the thing wasn’t actually turned on. Now that you’ve got it turned on, you can’t help but be worried about how many things are moving near you that you just can’t see. Especially worrisome is the one dot that keeps creeping closer so slowly it only appears on your scanner as a ghost.

Tingle Bottle: In the HD rerelease of Wind Waker for the Wii, the Tingle Bottle replaces the Tingle Tuner as Tingle's gift of thanks for freeing him. The bottle allowed players to send screenshots and messages to other Links exploring the Great Sea. To send a message, Link must place a message in the bottle and throw it out to sea. Only for it to randomly appear in another player’s Great Sea. The screenshots and messages would appear in the player’s Mii profile, but since Nintendo ended the Miiverse the bottle is useless.

Most messages in a bottle show up in your life on a beach where they have washed in on a high tide. What makes this message in a bottle a little different is that it appeared in your bottle of brandy just after you had poured yourself a glass. How did it get there, what does it say, and who wanted to make sure you got the message?

Here is the first example of me not coloring every item card in this set. I committed to making a color version of every different base line-art, but some cards are just swapped symbols or tweaked details, and they won’t always get a unique color version.

I am coming up on 1,000 Zelda item cards drawn, I have drawn well over 1,000 cards if you include all of my side projects, and I’m getting close to my 300th post. I don’t know if I expected to be keeping this project up for more than three years, but I am and I have no plans to stop anytime soon.

Be excellent to everyone.

Six items from Oracle of Ages you can find during the first act of the apocalypse.

Ringbox L-2: After getting the smallest ringbox, Link can buy this larger ringbox in the Lynna City Shop for a whopping 300 rupees. The medium-sized ring box can hold up to three different magical rings, but Link can still only equip one of them at any given time.

In the lead up to any apocalypse in the United States of America, people will hoard unnecessary things. This is especially true of guns. Gun safes around the country will become overstuffed with firearms and ammunition. This will be especially helpful for the wasteland survivors that will eventually break into the safes as they fight to survive in the post-apocalyptic wreckage of the world.

Letter of Introduction: Link is given this letter by a friend of the Graceful Goron in exchange for some Lava Juice. After the proper introduction, the Graceful Goron will give Link the chance to earn the Mermaid Key by perfectly completing the Goron Dance

As a kid, perfectly completing the Goron Dance mini-game was maddening. It took me forever and I still remember how relieved I was to be done.

This whole plan only works because we got our hands on a datapad with security clearance. With this datapad, we can see when and where the nuclear device is going to be transported. It is vital that we do nothing to disrupt the data pad’s secure connection so we are not able to dig as deeply into the servers at Ad Astra Technologies as we would like.

Rooms Key: The key to the Knife Chamber at the Stock Pot Inn in Clock Town. This room was originally reserved by a Goron who shares a name with our intrepid hero Link. Link can assume this unlucky Goron’s identity simply by saying he is the person who reserved the room. As a result, Link the Goron is forced to sleep on the street. This key gives Link permission to come and go at the Stock Pot Inn as he pleases instead of having to wait for it to open or sneak in through the second floor deck.

It is always odd coming to a large inn during the off season when inclement weather keeps other travelers away. Staying in an unfamiliar lodging is unnerving enough without the skeleton crew staff avoiding any direct question with cryptic double talk. Even the key to my room seems to be off. I swear the thing is writhing around in my pocket like an eel, but when I check everything is normal.

Weird Egg: This egg is given to Link by Malon, the daughter of the ranch owner Talon. She wants Link to incubate the egg so that the newly hatched cucco can wake up her sleepy father.

The Tent of Oddities contains strange and horrific objects gathered from all corners of this world and others. The tour guide is eager to explain that the egg contains one of the thirteen beasts of calamity, and the rune painted on egg holds the creature inside in a delicate stasis. Woe to any that release this monster from its stasis as it would visit untold destruction on the land.

Six items from Ocarina of Time you can find in an enchanter's workshop.

Claim Check: If Link can manage to get the Biggoron their much-needed eye drops, the smith can finally get to fixing the broken sword. The sword can’t be fixed instantly so Link is given a receipt to prove he is the true owner of the sword, as compared to all the other people braving the ascent up Death Mountain

The process of enchanting an object always begins with a formula. As an enchanter begins to draft the ritual, strands of magical energy are caught in the tablets and scrolls used to record the process. Outlined in the notes are the materials needed and the steps required to complete the work. Once the enchanter has charted their course, they can begin the work in earnest. As the ritual concludes, enchanters zealously destroy any notes created during the process to release the mana captured in the drafting stage as a way to seal and finish the spell. The more complete the destruction, the more magical energies are released, strengthening the spells. This destructive climax means that enchanters in training learn how to identify and organize what materials and actions are required, rather than memorizing predetermined rituals.

Five items from Ocarina of Time you could find in a medical office.

Prescription: When Link takes the broken goron’s sword to the Biggoron to be fixed, the giant smith advises our hero that they are unable to work due to suffering from irritated eyes. Thanks to the Biggoron’s hardy constitution, they only need some prescription strength eye drops and not anything more serious like a surgical procedure or a restoration spell.
This is by no means an unreasonable thing to happen to a person in their line of work. History is full of smiths and other craftspeople damaging or entirely losing one or both of their eyes. I remember reading an article that posited that the cyclopean or disabled depictions of various smith gods was a reflection of the toll their work on the body. Early smiths were exposed to toxic chemicals and dangerous conditions without any modern protections, leaving many to suffer serious illness. Many professions in the past left the professional facing serious health concerns due to the conditions of their work.

I never saw myself as one of those people who would loot in the wake of a disaster, but this storm took everything from me. Since the power grid and the cell networks are both unstable, pharmacies are having to go back to pen and paper orders for prescriptions. If I can find some pads, I might be able to sell or trade them to get food for my family.

I'm not an artist: Five archaeological items from Link's Awakening.

Five items from Link’s Awakening that could lead to the location of a missing archaeologist.

Letter: A love letter written by a goat pretending to be a beautiful woman. That sentence is why I enjoy soft fantasy as a genre. A millennia of established world building isn’t needed to have a Goat live in Animal Village.

A letter from the archaeologist Dr. Colleen Tannis has arrived requesting funds for her next expedition. Dr.Tannis has a reputation for pursuing forbidden histories and secrets better left forgotten. For the last few years, Dr. Tannis has been searching for the lost city of Inan. Legends speak of the fateful night when the many sages of Inan sought to elevate one of their own to godhood using a long lost ritual. The stories do not agree whether the ritual was a success, but they do all agree that every inhabitant of Inan and those in the surrounding area were killed in an instant. Few in academic circles truly believe the infamous city ever existed, but Dr. Tannis is undeterred. Since this letter was postmarked almost four months ago and no one in the academic world has heard from Colleen in almost six months, Dr. Tannis is probably obsessing over artifacts uncovered in some far-flung dig site after securing funding from some private source.

I'm not an artist: Another month, another five items from The Legend of Zelda

Happy Easter Fools Day. Another five items from The Legend of Zelda drawn by me.

Magical Boomerang: The dot on the gem at the center was supposed to be a highlight. Now that I look at it after some time away, I sort of get a Cylon eye vibe. This boomerang could be intelligent or be controlled mentally like a RC drone. You could even use this as a sort of surveillance device that allows the user to look out from the perspective of the gem as it flies.
