Cards: The complete set of items from Ocarina of Time.

Behold, my interpretation of every item from Ocarina of Time. A printable PDF with these items is here.

I really like some of these drawings, particularly the Zora Scale Charm Bracer and the Hand of Gorey. I also really hate some of these drawings, Liz Sherman's face and the whole set of shields spring to mind.

For all of the completed item sets go to the collected tag here.

I feel like I learned a lot working through Ocarina of Time, and I can clearly see that I have lots of room to improve.

Next week we start our journey through the items of Majora's Mask.

Use my work personally however you see fit, but do not profit off my efforts without my consent.

Go out there and be excellent to everyone.

I'm not an artist: The last five items from Ocarina of Time

The last five items from Ocarina of Time an ambitious conjurer would use.

Shard of Agony: The Shard of Agony notifies Link when he is near a hidden chest or an entrance to a secret grotto. Link is rewarded with the Shard by one of the cursed children of House Skulltula after releasing twenty souls from their cursed Golden Skulltula bodies. The Shard replaced the Stone of Agony in the rerelease of Ocarina of Time.

The Wand of Conjuration’s tip is crafted from a crystalline growth harvested from a titanic void leviathan that was old when the gods were young. Having fed on debris from a multitude of worlds, the coral-like diamonds growing out of the leviathan's hide are saturated with planar energies. By channeling their magic through the crystal shard, conjurers are able to summon entities vastly more powerful than their abilities and experience would normally allow. The last three owners of the wand have all died violent deaths after attempting particularly ambitious conjurations.

Weird Egg: This egg is given to Link by Malon, the daughter of the ranch owner Talon. She wants Link to incubate the egg so that the newly hatched cucco can wake up her sleepy father.

The Tent of Oddities contains strange and horrific objects gathered from all corners of this world and others. The tour guide is eager to explain that the egg contains one of the thirteen beasts of calamity, and the rune painted on egg holds the creature inside in a delicate stasis. Woe to any that release this monster from its stasis as it would visit untold destruction on the land.

Five items from Ocarina of Time that can be found at the Temple of the Contemplative Yak.

Bug: These blue beetles love to burrow in the ground and particularly enjoy the patches of soft soil that Link can find in his travels. Since Gold Skultulas often make their home in these patches of soil, beetles burrowing in the soil forces the skultulas out of their burrows so Link can slay the monster and release its cursed soul.

Bullhorn beetles get their name from their large single horn and their extremely aggressive behavior. Mostly active during dawn and dusk, Bullhorn beetles see anything that is not a mountain yak as a threat, attacking with a ferocity unfitting of their size. Even though they cause the monks of the temple great annoyance, the monks see the beetles as a boon since they guard the yak herds against threats natural and supernatural and regularly turn over the soil with their daily burrowing.

Claim Check: If Link can manage to get the Biggoron their much-needed eye drops, the smith can finally get to fixing the broken sword. The sword can’t be fixed instantly so Link is given a receipt to prove he is the true owner of the sword, as compared to all the other people braving the ascent up Death Mountain

The process of enchanting an object always begins with a formula. As an enchanter begins to draft the ritual, strands of magical energy are caught in the tablets and scrolls used to record the process. Outlined in the notes are the materials needed and the steps required to complete the work. Once the enchanter has charted their course, they can begin the work in earnest. As the ritual concludes, enchanters zealously destroy any notes created during the process to release the mana captured in the drafting stage as a way to seal and finish the spell. The more complete the destruction, the more magical energies are released, strengthening the spells. This destructive climax means that enchanters in training learn how to identify and organize what materials and actions are required, rather than memorizing predetermined rituals.

Five items from Ocarina of Time you could find in a medical office.

Prescription: When Link takes the broken goron’s sword to the Biggoron to be fixed, the giant smith advises our hero that they are unable to work due to suffering from irritated eyes. Thanks to the Biggoron’s hardy constitution, they only need some prescription strength eye drops and not anything more serious like a surgical procedure or a restoration spell.
This is by no means an unreasonable thing to happen to a person in their line of work. History is full of smiths and other craftspeople damaging or entirely losing one or both of their eyes. I remember reading an article that posited that the cyclopean or disabled depictions of various smith gods was a reflection of the toll their work on the body. Early smiths were exposed to toxic chemicals and dangerous conditions without any modern protections, leaving many to suffer serious illness. Many professions in the past left the professional facing serious health concerns due to the conditions of their work.

I never saw myself as one of those people who would loot in the wake of a disaster, but this storm took everything from me. Since the power grid and the cell networks are both unstable, pharmacies are having to go back to pen and paper orders for prescriptions. If I can find some pads, I might be able to sell or trade them to get food for my family.

Five items from Ocarina of Time you could find at a birthday party.

Cojiro: This blue cucco is not only remarkable due to its odd coloration, it is also extremely quiet, especially since its owner left. Looking at the cucco in context, I assume that it is a visual pun since the cucco is sad, or blue, that its friend is gone.

Look at what the petting zoo people brought to the party.

OMG. What is that thing?

I have no clue. I made a mistake when I checked the “something interesting” box when I couldn’t decide between the farm animals and safari animals.
Weirdest thing is they put up signs on the inside of the cage that say no pecking.

I hope the rest of the party is going better than that thing looks.

Goron Mask: Once Link has completed selling the Happy Mask Seller’s masks, he is able to borrow masks that change how people react when approached. The Goron Mask convinces some that Link looks just like a Goron and has others editorialize on Gorons.

The Hierophant was not always the leader of a diabolical cult dedicated to breaking the seventy-seven seals and releasing the nine hundred and sixty-three forsaken legions to ravage the world before the coming of the infernal powers. They had once been a regular teen they enjoyed hanging out with friends, daydreaming about their crush, and collecting odd items from online auctions. No one could have known that having the highest bid on an odd bust carved from red ivory would set events in motion that would see them at the head of a black mass chanting the true name of the shepherd of the apocalypse.

Five masks from Ocarina of Time you could see at the Night Parade of Ten Thousand Faces.

Keaton Mask: This mask depicts a popular character from children's stories. The Keaton is a fox character visually reminiscent of Pikachu. The mask has no major mechanical effect, but wearing this mask earns warm welcomes from kids and nostalgic reactions from adults.

A story tells of a time when the Sun Goddess was forced into the form a white wolf. The wolf’s glittering fur was easy to spot, so prey could easily elude the hunting wolf. In desperation, the proud Goddess humbled herself to a passing firefly, promising to do good works in exchange for the firefly’s help. This mask is often worn in honor of those that overcome their pride to accomplish their goals.

Fire Medallion: Each medallion represents a Sage that Link has helped awaken to their true power. While the medallions do not add any new abilities, they are an artful way to track a core part of Link’s quest to confront Ganondorf. The Goron hero Darunia bestowed Link with his medallion after Link helped him defeat Volvagia, the magma dragon.

The material world is precariously balanced between two diametrically opposed forces. The Primal Wardens defend the material world from outsiders that would try to tip the scales in their favor. The Green Warden calls upon the strength of the earth to gain the size and power of the Rhino.

Five items from Ocarina of Time a thief might desire.

Adult’s Wallet: Before Link receives the adult’s wallet, he can only carry 99 rupees. That might feel like a lot at the start of the game, but inflation makes that a meager sum quickly. Link obtains this wallet from the inhabitants of the House of Skulltula by returning proof he released ten spirits from the curse.

Lifting wallets and coin purses off rubes with more money than sense is how every pickpocket gets their start. It is difficult to survive off the petty cash one can grab in even the best of times. Having to always be working on the next grab leads pickpockets to look for bigger scores or find themselves in irons, often both.

Bomb Bag: Link obtains the bomb bag in Dodongo’s Cavern. With the bag, Link is no longer reliant on bomb flowers to solve puzzles and reveal secrets. This feels like the game begins to trusts you with the explosive mechanic enough to take you off the “see a bomb flower, expect to see a location to be bombed nearby” leash.

Six items from Ocarina of Time you would find at a fantasy customs checkpoint.

Silver Scale: Link has the innate ability to swim and dive in Ocarina of Time. This is pretty nice since, in other games, he has had to get some magical help to simply swim. The silver scale improves his natural abilities. most importantly allowing access to Jabu-Jabu’s belly

Fig Harbor is known as the gateway to the west in the thousand islands east of the Neck. With piracy being a socially acceptable career east of the neck, most people are surprised to learn of customs agents operating in such seemingly lawless lands. Fig Harbor customs agents all wear a silver scale in a glass bauble. They are only concerned with the intercepting the few truly forbidden cargos such as slaves or souls.

Kokiri Boots: Link’s first pair of boots. These boots somehow fit child and adult Link equally well.

Before becoming known as the Falling-Star Alchemist, Sonya Li was famous for her kickboxing skills. She never officially competed for a title, but those that watched her spar believed she was the equal of any fighter. She earned the Falling-Star moniker with her thunderous kicks enhanced by impressive alchemy

Six items from Ocarina of Time made by Turtle Shell Ablatives, a ProtecCo company.

Deku Shield: I think the Deku Shield is the game’s most thematically interesting shield as it is made from the bark of the Great Deku Tree and inscribed with the Kokiri symbol. Those two facts really ground the shield in the lore of the world. It's only usable by child Link and is extremely vulnerable to flame so it is often relegated to being a basic or starter shield rather than a memorable item.
I remember really liking how this came out when I drew it but looking at it now I'm not impressed. I guess that is the march of progress.

For the holy warrior more concerned with venerating the gods of nature then personal protection there is the Ironwood Buckler. Bark harvested from sanctified ironwood trees is inscribed with the symbol of your choice and then treated with resins and holy oils to keep it as hard as iron. Don't let prohibitions against metal armor keep you from safely spreading the will of the gods to even the most hostile of audiences.

Five items from Ocarina of Time forged by three master smiths.

Megaton Hammer: This hammer is swung with an even greater force than its already incredible mass would suggest. The strike of this hammer can shatter stone, flatten steel, or even cause a small earthquake. Legends speak of a Goron ancestor hero wielding the hammer in battle with Volvagia, the fire dragon. The ancestor hero sealed the dragon’s spirit in the burning heart of a volcano.

Training under a master smith, three apprentices bickered bitterly over who was the greatest smith. When the master decided to retire, they challenged their three pupils to craft a flawless forging hammer. The smith that crafted a perfect hammer would inherit the master’s entire workshop. Each of the three apprentices poured all their skills into a hammer they hoped was the equal of the challenge. The master rejected each of the hammers for a different reason. They became resigned to close their shop instead of passing it to a new master. The apprentices realized that individually, they could not succeed, but together they were more than capable. Working together, the apprentices forged a truly flawless hammer. When they went to present the hammer to their master, the master had departed. The former master left three pairs of golden tongs, signifying each smith as a master.

Five items from Ocarina of Time you could find in a curious shop.

Lens of truth: In Ocarina of Time, Link can recover the lens of truth from Dead Hand’s cold dead hands. The glass allows Link to discern illusions, perceive the invisible, and gaze inside sealed chests.

Having gotten turned around walking the city at night, you find yourself on an unfamiliar street. It is lined with small shops offering all sorts of wares. Without realizing it, you find yourself drawn to Lil’s Trinkets, an outdated store with a cat sleeping in the window. The shop is illuminated by an army of candles that can only manage to make the interior dim at best. A disembodied hand covered in wax stands on a shelf with a small flickering flame hovering above each finger. The tag reads, “Glorious Hand, a guiding light against the darkness of ignorance.” You can’t seem to find the price on the tag.

I'm not an artist: Five items from Ocarina of Time you could see during ajourney to the shining temple.

Five items from Ocarina of Time you could see during journey to a shining temple.

Light Arrow: Link’s arrows are empowered with the goddesses’ light after he frees all seven sacred sages. The arrows allow Link to dispel magical barriers and strike lethal blows against Ganondorf. As an added bonus, monsters slain by light arrows almost always drop a bunch of rupees. Mechanically it is a nice way to provide the player more rupees in the endgame, but I also think that the hero of time being able to abuse the sacred power for personal gain is an interesting unspoken complication to the narrative.

From atop the temple of the triple goddess, a ceaseless light shines out onto the lands of the people. Even during the darkest night, the lands of the people are held in a twilight by the presence of the sacred light. The light shines from the crystal head of a spear that was once wielded by the greatest evil to ever rule over the people. The Hero of Song, the greatest of all the people’s heroes, defeated the great evil by securing three blessings from the three-that-are-one. Only after the hero received all three blessings were they able to defeat the great evil. Modern incarnations of the Hero’s Song tell that the hero slew the evil with their own spear and then triumphantly sang the three blessings into the once accursed weapon. Placing the newly hallowed spear atop the greatest temple on the highest rise so that its light might act as a ward against suffering for the people and their lands. The hero than left the lands of the people to pursue the corrupting force of evil in far off lands and have many great adventures. Recently rediscovered verses written down long ago say the hero defeated the great evil, but was reluctant to partake in the people’s revelry when they learned of the victory. The last act of the hero was to sing a mighty barrier around the spear's resting place that could withstand almost any force. The effort robbed the hero of their voice and led them to a life of solitude hidden away from the people.

Six items from Ocarina of Time you could find in a pulp hero story.

Bomb: Bombs only become available to Link once he obtains the bomb bag. After that, Link can blow open cracked walls, destroy weak stones, and give giant lizards heartburn as he sees fit.

During the gala celebrating the newly unveiled Park City hazardous waste containment and neutralization center, a clockwork automaton crashes through the glass ceiling bringing the party to a standstill. The machine announces that the infamous Doc Clock has directed their minions to place bundles of dynamite all over the containment facility. If the waste stores at the plant were to be released, it would quickly wash down river and render the entirety of Park City unlivable for a generation. With the facility on the outskirts of town, no one is sure the bomb squad will make it in time.
