White Sword: The white sword is the reforged Picori Blade that was broken when Vaati escaped his prison and loosed demons upon Hyrule. When Link eventually has the sword reforged, it has lost some of its power. The white sword is a fine blade, but Link my journey to gather the four essences to reinfuse the blade with its true power to vanquish evil.

Excalibur, the sword of King Arthur, was a gift from the Lady of the Lake. Arthur sought this sword to replace the sword he pulled from the stone and eventually broke in a duel. While the sword is most famous, the scabbard of Excalibur magically closes all wounds inflicted on its bearer, and losing the scabbard is what ultimately spells Arthur’s doom.

There is a subset of swords in this set because swords are so important in the many fairy tales and folk tales that inspired me when drawing. Most of the swords have a companion scabbard that can be equally or even more magical and important than its sword.

Minish Cap: Forge Master’s tools

 Forge Master’s tools

Smith’s Sword: This sword was forged by Link’s grandfather to be the grand prize awarded to the winner of the Picori Festival Tournament. Instead, the sword is given to Link by King Daltus at the outset of Link’s quest to save Princess Zelda from the Dark Sorceror Vaati.

These tools have been used by the Forge Master ever since the people were forced into hiding on the Night of Great Sadness. Even with these new humble tools the Armor forges fine arms and armor for the people to use in their fight for survival. Hopefully, with the help of the master-crafted arms, the people can one day retake their homes and step out from the shadow of extinction.

This is the freshest of references. I’m just now getting around to watching The Mandalorian and I really enjoy the Armorer as both outfitter and mentor.

This is the beginning of the set of items based on the Minish Cap. The theme for the set was fairy tales, so there are a lot of classical medieval objects connected to stories throughout the set. The various stories of a smith forging or nailing the devil onto something give us the hammer and tongs item you see here.

Amphora: Six items from my home game

 Six items from my home game

Greenbane Sling: This sling is imbued with a spell of seeking and bane toward plants. Its bullets fly unerringly towards powerful plants and its strike withers any plant material they touch.

Broadswing Hammer: This lucerne hammer allows its wielder to swing in supernaturally wide arcs. Striking a handful of foes is a simple task with this fine hammer.

Orichalcum Cannonball: This cannonball was forged from precious orichalcum, a metal hard as steel and bright as gold with other more wondrous qualities. It has also been enchanted to return after striking, ensuring the investment in such a fine cannonball is not wasted after one shot.

Bone of Wishing: The collarbone of a phoenix is rumored to grant a single wish to whoever wins the bigger half when pulled apart by two informed participants. Legend also states that anyone who lies to another about what sort of bone this is will burst into flames when the bone is cracked.

These are all items my players have found, earned, or crafted in our ongoing campaign that started before I can even remember at this point. I am pre-writing this, so maybe it will have finally come to its epic conclusion.

Next week I begin our journey through the items in the Minish Cap. I absolutely loved playing the Minish Cap and really enjoyed drawing many of the items to come.

Here is the complete set of items from Four Swords Adventures. There are 68 item cards in total and this was the first set to receive a full-color treatment for each item card. Check out below for links to the collected sets in color and black and white.

Four Swords Adventures: Acidic sling pots

 Acidic sling pots

Purple Royal Jewel: The final royal jewel needed to enter the Palace of Winds is guarded by a death knight in Frozen Hyrule. Link must defeat the knight to recover the jewel.

These sling pots are filled with acidic concoctions made with water from the marshes of the dead. That foul water is still strewn with the long-dead warriors of the last true army this world has ever seen. It seems their fighting spirit empowers this acidic pot to strike true and seek out any unprotected crevice.

Elden Ring’s Alexander has been my favorite NPC in any game in a long time and I have not even played Elden Ring yet. These pots are based on the Elden Ring sling pots and the pot people pots.

I appreciate From Software’s beautiful inventory icons, but If I linger on their inventory art too much I might have to start a new project where I draw all the items in the Soulsborne games. I won't even consider that until I am fully done with all the Zelda games, which looks difficult considering two new games have come out since I started the project.

That is a great transition to the fact that this is the last item in the set based on Four Swords Adventures. Next week we will post the collected item set.
