 A Seeing Stone

Earth Element: To reforge the Picori blade and revive its power to seal away evil, Link must gather the four elemental essences. The Earth Element is guarded by the Big Green Chuchu in Minish Cap’s first dungeon, Deepwood Shrine. Link must wait until he has earned two of the four elements before he can begin the reforging process.

In a crazed display of foolishness, a spiderlike fae tossed this seeing stone in her fire, thinking it destroyed. A fire far greater than a witch’s hearth is needed to shatter such a potent artifact of natural power. The brave young girl escaped The Beldam’s web, but should another young victim find themself in the sinister fae’s domain, a potent artifact awaits them in the hearth’s cold ashes.

It was deeply disheartening to hear of the sexual assault allegations against Neil Gaiman. It sucks that there is always this sword of Damocles hanging above important and influential male figures.

Today in drewly we are going to focus in on how great Laika’s films are. Go watch some great stop-motion films and support my favorite movie medium.

Drewly: Obelisk

 Obelisk

Obelisk: An iconic piece of ancient Egyptian architecture, associated with the sun god Ra.

Drewly today is the first drawing from the Standing Stones project. I posted them in reverse order to get my Miscast fanboy post out as soon as possible. Other standing stones that I’ve drawn outside of this project are the summoning stone from World of Warcraft and the place of power stone from The Witcher 3.

Drewly: Henge Stones

Henge Stones

Henge Stones: A set of standing stones based on a photo of Stonehenge.

In googling this, henges are only defined as circular earthworks rather than anything to do with stone circles or other lithic monuments.

The more you know.

I’ve always been fascinated by standing stones, so I started drawing them. They are definitely outside my comfort zone, but it is good to pursue uncomfortable projects that excite you to grow your skills.

Drewly: Father’s Ancestor Stone

Father’s Stone: An ancestor stone guarding the Heart of Atlantis.

I was watching Atlantis: The Lost Empire, like I do at least once a year, and I thought, “I could draw that.” Unfortunately, I really hate this finished drawing, but it is done and posted and off my mind.

Drewly: Elven Waystone

 Elven Waystone

Elven Waystone: A stone set by a mad wizard to guide explorers through the uncertain lands of creation.

Miscast is, as Trent would put it, a bloody legend.

Everything Trent does is inspiring, and every time he drops a new video, I am immediately inspired to hobby along as I watch, even though I don’t paint minis or make terrain.

Thank you, Trent, for being a pillar of my online joy.

 Meeting Stone

Summoning Stone: Placed about the world near places of high adventure, these stones allow groups to reach out across vast distances and summon a close friend or fellow adventurer.

On the 26th of Drewly, I’d like to imagine an arcane logistics guild that hears about important locations where adventurers are likely to flock and set up a summoning stone to facilitate travel, all for a nominal fee of course.

Drewly: Rune of Igni

 Rune of Igni

Igni Runestone: Inscribed with a glyph of Igni, this runestone allows a Witcher to create larger and hotter flames with the Igni sign.

Drewly 15th is going to get me some well actually’s from Witcher fans. I know Igni isn’t on any runestones in Witcher 3, but I was more interested in a drawing for as many signs as I could rather than making game-accurate item cards.
