Big Wallet: Big wallets are upgrades to the total amount of rupees Link can hold at once during his adventures in the Minish Cap. He can buy one, earn one through kinstone fusion, and is given one as a reward from a Great Fairy. After Link gathers all three, he will be able to carry a total of 999 rupees.

All the people living along the edge of the forest know the story of the witch and her hut that stalks through the woods on a great pair of chicken legs. When the hut settles on a new roost, it settles down onto the ground, hiding its great legs and appearing like an unassuming refugee nestled in the darkness of the deep woods. While the witch is not necessarily evil, she is rarely kind, and her gifts always come with conditions, so it is often wisest to avoid the house entirely if you spot it in your travels.

If you were to randomly draw this from a loot deck, I’d probably say it was a carved token in the image of the hut or I would say you haven’t found any item, but something or someone has noticed you and then find a way to introduce the baba yaga or another witch or hag into your game.

I love hags as characters and influencers. Ravel Mazewell was one of my favorite parts of Planescape: Torment. I always look for ways to sneak hags and covens and witches into my games and worlds.

 An empty crown for we need no kings

Big Red Rupee: Here it is, the biggest, baddest, most highly valued rupee of them all. This big red rupee is worth 200 rupees and is almost always found as a reward for solving a puzzle or fusing a particularly rare kinstone.

When the Prophet of Amber stormed the capital and seized control of the bureaucracy, they commissioned this crown and declared themself a king. The fearful and foolish believed the prophet, but most of the people recognized the lies for what they were and rose up. By the time the crown was ready to sit on the head of the king, the land had no king, and the prophet had no head.

 Every key to the house

Big Key: Each dungeon has a powerful creature Link must overcome to earn the dungeon’s rewards. Each of these boss monsters are waiting behind impressive doors bound with magical gold chains that can only be opened using the big key found in that dungeon. Link must earn each big key through solving puzzles and vanquishing foes as to prove his worth and readiness to face the dungeon’s beast.

It was so nice of that eccentric noble to take you in and adopt you as their own. When they gave you the keys to the manor with free reign of the place, besides that one door, you felt like you had finally proved you were worthy of someone’s trust. It does bother you that you aren’t allowed to open only that one door, what could possibly be back there?

Big Green Rupee: Green is the simplest of the rupees, so big green rupees are the least valuable of the big rupees. Worth 50 of their smaller kin, Link often finds big green rupees in chests and soft soil as a reward for solving a minor puzzle.

Spending all summer searching for a leprechaun’s hidden gold is a waste of time. Spending all summer carefully tracking local leprechauns so that you can catch one after a particularly wild midsummer revel just takes commitment. Now that you’ve got this hungover fairy caught, you’ve got to get them to take you to their real gold, and not some false cache hidden to fool amateurs.

 A sick dragon skull

Big Bomb Bag: These bags increase Link’s ability to carry bombs each time he obtains a new bag. One can be purchased, one is given by a fairy, and the third is a reward for fusing kinstones. If Link gets all three, he can carry 99 bombs to break cracked walls or boulders.

Getting a text from your friend that says, “we found a sick dragon skull” should mean they found a wicked cool skull, but you are friends with a thaumapaleontologists. They have been excavating a draconic grave pit filled with remains that show clear signs of severe illness. Such a find could rewrite the common understanding that dragons are impervious to all but the most heroic attacks, or it could reveal proof of a truly legendary plague lost to time.

ICE’s “draw down from MN” has just moved ICE agents to smaller communities in MN that have less resources to organize, leaving their residents more at risk.

 A dragon-sick diamond

Big Blue Rupee: The economy of Hyrule runs on rupees, which is crazy because Link can just cut grass over and over until he can afford anything he could possibly want. Big blue rupees are usually rewards from kinstone fusion of inside chests as they are worth 100 rupees. 

This Diamond was the pride of a dragon’s hoard, not for its size, but for its unique provenance. The gem was the last piece cut by the long dead master jeweler of the glittering isles. The dragon so obsessed over this single gem that it became infused with the dragon's greed and pride, cursing any who touch it with unquenchable greed and self-sabotaging pride.

 A token of your sacrifice

Nayru’s Charm: Nayru, one of three traveling oracles, is looking for a home in Hyrule Town. If Link ensures Nayru is given one of the two new homes built in the town, he is rewarded with Nayru’s charm. This charm significantly improves defense for a short time after consumption and if Link ever needs a new dose, he need only bring an empty bottle to Nayru in her new home. 

Odin sacrificed himself to himself, hanging by the neck from a great branch of the world tree for nine days, his side pierced by his own spear, so that he could gain great wisdom. You sacrificed yourself to your corporate self, hanging a little noose around your neck for nine years, your soul pierced by the hollowness of your work, all so that you could gain great wealth. On this first day of your tenth year, you aren’t rich enough to feel whole, but you gained the wisdom to know this is not the path you should be walking, but what are you willing to sacrifice to find the right path?

I struggled to feel at home in corporate or office jobs. I still struggle feeling at home in my work, but that probably comes from always having felt like I am a bit different than everyone else. Not better or worse, just different in an isolating way.

Another isolating experience has been living in Minnesota during the continuing ICE surge. ICE is still snatching people and causing fear. Don’t look away and please demand the US government stop its attack on those arbitrarily deemed undesirable.
