I'm not an Artist: First five from A Link to the Past

Here are the first five items from A Link to the Past

Fighter's Sword: A sword given to the protagonist at the start of their journey. I found that blunt tipped swords are often executioner's swords since they would only need the slicing edge and never the stabbing tip.

This sword could easily be used by a beefy shirtless brute hiding their face in a black sack, or a heavily armored tank with very few weak-spots.

A less obvious bearer of this blade could be a revolutionary seeking to overthrow a despotic ruler. The despot employs execution too often and too freely upon their enemies. The revolutionary hopes to one day remove the tyrant from power by removing their head.

Bomb: Based on those emphasis lines, that is a pretty great bomb. I really liked the wick on this bomb. I know it it’s not perfect but I remember feeling good when I drew that wick.

In a world with commonplace explosives, this is a great entry level bomb. This could also serve as a piece of lost or foreign technology, or as a newly developed explosive device that cause destruction and mayhem en masse.

For those not inclined to include explosives, this could be a glass jar full of dark flammable oil. I'm fairly certain I have used that explanation before but I think it is a sound work around.

Super Bomb: Now this is much better than the last one. In A Link to the Past, this bomb is too large to be carried in Link's bags and can't be left alone or it will detonate. It is a solution to the sealed pyramid entrance puzzle, but just getting the bomb to where it can be used is a puzzle in and of itself. Stealing the too big to store and too temperamental to drop mechanics add a lot of great limitations to the item.

No one would blame a person for importing the super bomb exactly as it appears in the game. Bold players with the super bomb must balance the risk of carrying the bomb with the possible reward of getting to detonate this massive device at just the right time

This could be an antique if it appears in a more modern setting. The bomb has become temperamental in its old age but may even be a dud. The best time to find out is, of course, the moment you decide to use the special limited resource.

One can also use this bomb as a more stable and reliable version of the hand held proto-grenade. This would actually subvert the unreliable nature of the super bomb. Regular bombs would be prone to duds and misfires, where the super bombs generally work most of the time. The markings and wick cap give the bomb a more artisanal hand-crafted feel.

Book of Mudora: In A Link to the Past, this book is not overtly magic. It is a complete history of the lands, and also contains enough translations of the ancient language to allow for scholars or adventurers to translate ancient text found in scrolls or on ruins. Translating these messages gives invaluable clues about how to progress or where to find treasure.

This book can provide researchers with information they need to translate a difficult passage or solve a particularly difficult riddle. Since this book has a many valuable answers, just getting it should be a challenge. It could be stored on an unreasonably high shelf or locked in the private section of the library

Since one shouldn’t judge a book simply by its cover, this book could have many other purposes. Obviously, this could be a mages spell book or a tome of Holy Scripture. It could also be a recently recovered journal of someone known to research long lost secrets, an unsavory cookbook filled with recipes involving freshly baked kinder, a collection of essays on the benefits of virgin-blood baths, or a pre-production copy of the most anticipated new mystery novel by renowned author F. B. Nebati.

Small Key: This is the small key from A Link to the Past. It is a great key for an early dungeon door, an old chest, or a noble's desk drawers.

Based on the simple nature of the key's teeth, one could assume that someone skilled at picking locks would consider this key optional.

It looks like I lied to you last week when I promised Link's Awakening items. You will have to wait about twelve weeks for the items from Link's Awakening. For now, we are going to be working through items from A Link to the Past

Thank you for stopping by. Please don’t profit off my work without giving me credit.

And don’t forget, be excellent to everyone.
