I'm not an artist: The last four items from Link's Awakening that you could also find in a faerie court.

Four items from Link’s Awakening you could find in a fey court.

Full Moon Cello: This is the first dungeon instrument that Link recovers on Koholint Island. I kept my interpretation close to the official game art because the concept is so wonderful.

The Cello de Lun is said to have the most beautiful song in all of the Four Courts of Tempus. The instrument’s strings are gossamer strands of moonlight and as such can only be played at night under the open sky. Boastful members of the Tempus Faerie claim to have heard the immaculate song of the Cello de Lun, but rumors say that only the luthier that crafted the instrument has ever heard it played. There is little hope to ever hear the cello played as it sits in the vast treasure vaults beneath the grand city of Everday, the seat of the Estival Court, where the sun never sets.

Sea Lily’s Bell: Another of the Sirens Instruments, the official artwork for the bell depicts a beautiful flower shaped bell that may or may not be functional.

Those living south of the Golden Wood, where the Roiling Sea crashes against grey granite cliffs, are watched over by Ahnwen and her siren daughters. Having grown tired of the political intrigue of life in the heart of the Autumnal Court, Ahnwen chose to live as a protector for the fey that make their home in the southern fringes of the Autumnlands. Inclement weather and dark nights are common in the coastal climes. Ahnwen commands each of her daughters to carry a massive bell so that they might be a guide for the lost in times of need. Each bells is said to be as heavy as a mule but the sirens are able to carry them as if they are no heavier than a feather.

Hibiscus: Link gets this beautiful flower in exchange for a pineapple. The fruit’s new owner is so hungry that they eat the entire thing in one sitting. Personal experience with binge eating pineapple tells me that is a recipe for disaster.

Life springs eternal in the Vernal Court. With the vital energies of life flowing so freely, most citizens of the Springlands are able to conjure small animals and plants freely. This minor charm, at least by Vernal standards, is a common way to express how one feels. It is not uncommon for a flight of song birds to herald the start of a person’s name day or for a person to literally shower the object of their affection with roses. Different flowers have an array of possible meanings that all depend on such factors as the sender, recipient, delivery method, and much more. Outsiders viewing politics in the Vernal Court might mistake the floral exchange for shallow vanity, missing the subtext infused in each blossom.

Wind Marimba: In researching marimbas, I found they were distinct from xylophones in ways that are not entirely apparent.

The filename for this image is crylophone because it turned out less than adequate. I would described the process of creating this image more as construction than drawing and in the end of all things I just didn’t do a great job.

The Hibernal Court is relatively ascetic and reserved compared to the lavish arrangements or the passionate melodramas of the Vernal or Estival Courts. Visitors often seek out the Hibernal Court in search of the famed serenity of the Winterlands. Life may not appear as comfortable, but comforts that are achieved are valued more deeply than comforts that are given. The Hibernal Court is still one of the Courts of the Faerie Tempus, and as such has active political intrigue and many rich artistic traditions. A musician that combines both fields is famous for their experimental percussive arrangements that can almost transport a listener to a deeply symbolic location or even in the Winterlands. The musician has used their platform as a musician to spread their ideology that winter is the true force of change and direction in the world. They believe that the natural worlds uses the other three seasons to bolster their defenses against the harsh requirements of winter. Winter demands sacrifices and only suffers the most acquiescent to survive.

I went a little fantasy supremacist on that last adventure seed there. I usually try to avoid fantastical prejudice and discrimination, see knife ears, not because it is unrealistic, but because I am trying to create a world people can escape to if they need an escape from out world and its deeply ingrained problems.

This is it for Link’s Awakening. Next week I will be posting the collected file for all the Link’s Awakening cards so they are all in one place for you to use or print if you’d like.

Please use my work personally as you see fit but don’t profit off my efforts without my consent.

Winter has arrived for me, and that reminds me that the cold months are a tough time for a lot of people. That is just one more reason to be excellent to each other.
