I'm not an artist: Fives masks from Majora’s Mask you could find in an explorer’s collection.

Fives masks from Majora’s Mask you could find in an explorer’s collection.

Kafei’s Mask: This mask is given to Link upon accepting the quest to find her missing son Kafei. This mask was hand carved in the image of the missing boy. If Link talks to citizens of Clock Town with the mask on they comment on Kafei’s disappearance and provide leads for Link to track down.

Duels may be terribly out of fashion these days but they are still technically legal as long as the correct protocols are followed. It was at one of those such duels where the master of the house acquired the wig of a barrister who was made to choose between their dignity and their life. As these specific wigs are only given to lawyers upon obtaining their license this is a novel keepsake.

Couple’s Mask: This is a composite mask created by combining the Moon Mask and the Sun Mask. This mask symbolizes the unity of a married couple who have combined their lives. Link earns this mask by reuniting Kafei and Anju at the conclusion of a major side quest. If he wears it in front of the Mayor, Link will be rewarded with a piece of heart.

The Umbral Masquerade is held on the last lunar eclipse of every year. As the event is based on lunar alignments, its actual calendar date is highly variable. Everything else about the event is equally chaotic as it is hosted by a hedonistic cult obsessed with novel experiences. Receiving an invitation to the masquerade means you are interesting enough to at least be worthy of experiencing once, being invited again means you truly made an impression.

Mask of Truth: If Link can find and destroy every cursed Skulltula in the Swamp Spider House, he is rewarded with the Mask of Truth. This mask allows Link to speak with the gossip stones that dot the land as well as read the minds of animals. While not required to beat the game, this mask does unlock many helpful hints for Link during his travels.

The borders of the Allied Independent Sovereignties, the greatest political power in the east, are marked and guarded by walls and towers manned by ever-vigilant watchers. At those places deemed most important or vulnerable diviners specializing in magical surveillance maintain a tight network of wards that ensure nothing passes near the border unnoticed. In less high-risk areas the watchers are given a spyglass of sight, enchanted to see farther and clearer in all conditions and even see magical auras if they are close. The owner of the house is unwilling to say how they came to own such an important object, hinting only that they know the right sort of people.

Zora Mask: This transformation mask allows Link to transform into a Zora by channeling the spirit of a famous Zora musician who died in Link’s arms. Link can swim and breathe underwater as well as play a crazy fishbone guitar while in Zora Form.

This is the explorer’s most treasured possession and the item that started their obsessive collecting of oddities. The Helm of Erwyn Fishfang is a well known once worn by the great hero Erwyn Fishfang, slayer of the loathsome hag Old Maude and tamer of the Aether worms of the mana blight. The explorer claims to be the last scion of the Fishfang clan and is quick to stop any discussion of the rumors that Erwyn falsely accepted credit for deeds completed by his servant Khrahr Org-Dak.

Kamaro’s Mask: Another mask containing the spirit of a person who could not rest until Link soothed their worries by playing the Song of Healing. Kamaro was a master dancer that was unable to pass their technique onto a pupil before their death. If Link can find the ghost dancing atop a large mushroomtree in Termina Field at night, he will impart his skill at dancing through this mask. If Link uses his newfound skill to teach two Clocktown girls the perfect routine for the festival, they rewarded him with a Piece of Heart.

While history now portrays the Ophidian Caliphate as a villainous nation loathed by all, that is the narrative written by those who rose up and overthrew the serpentine nation. The Ophidian Caliphate had many contemporary allies and was a stable if demanding leader in regional trade. Trusted rulers of vassal states under the sway of the Caliphate were given finely wrought circlets in the image of a cobra. Many historians assumed these circlets were ensorcelled to sap the wearer’s free will, but in fact, they are finely wrought automatons that attune to the wearer’s thoughts and become an extension of their will. The explorer is happy to have historians visit their estate to inspect the circlet, but no one else is allowed to ever wear the serpent.

I was riffing on what I saw as an exotic collection of oddities. I love vast collections of things. Especially when I can just browse through and spend time on what happens to catch my eye. When I was younger, I made a museum of all the rare and unique items in Morrowind, of which there are many. I also did all of that on the Xbox rather than the computer which made everything much more difficult. I still boot up my Morrowind save-file on my original Xbox sometimes just to browse my collections and remember all the fun I had playing that game.

For a museum, you can browse or search through online, check out The Met’s collection online here. I often browse through that when I am trying to get inspired in creating new items.

Please use my work personally however you see fit, but do not profit off my efforts without my consent.

Thank you for stopping by and, as always, be excellent to everyone.

P.s. Telling someone to “go back to where they came from” is not excellent and you shouldn’t do that.
