I'm not an artist: Five items from Oracle of Ages found near the fields of silver.

Five items from Oracle of Ages found near the fields of silver.

Gale Seed: When cracked open by hand, gale seeds create a small tornado that Link can use to warp to any mystical tree in Labrynna he has already discovered. When shot from the seed shooter, these seeds explode in strong winds that fling away enemies.

Unfamiliar plants with odd fruits and leaves mark the outer edges of the taboo places. In those places, the influence of the silver has changed our world to look like another. It is true that some who have eaten fruit from the forbidden groves have been given wondrous gifts, but most die in agony as they are consumed by the silver from the inside out.

Mystery Seed: Mystery seeds have a randomized effect when opened by Link or shot from the seed shooter. The effect can be any one of the other mystical seed effects we have gone over in the last two weeks. Along with the random effect, Link can use these seeds to animate various owl statues around Labrynna for hints in solving nearby challenges. When Veran is possessing another person she is vulnerable to the touch of the mystery seed.

The effects of the silver have been slowly spreading out from the taboo places for generations. Every year, a few more fruits on a few more trees grow a little wrong, and from those seeds grow new trees that will grow a little more wrong. No one knows why the silver is corrupting the land, but soon hiding from it won’t be an option.

Seed Shooter: The seed shooter is a blowpipe that allows Link to shoot a mystical seed as a weapon or to solve puzzles. When shot, seeds bounce around rooms up to three times before breaking. Seeds also break the first time they hit an enemy. Link finds the shooter in the Moonlit Grotto on Crescent Island in the present era.

Many of the jagged hills of the silver fields are honeycombed with metal tunnels and strange chambers. Most accessible chambers have long been looted by daring explorers. Some of these chambers contained what appear to be weapons. A rare example is the simple yet supremely destructive device that can fling explosive meteors.

Roc’s Feather: As in other Zelda games, the roc’s feather gives Link the ability to leap like a frog. With just the feather, he can jump clear over creatures or across pits. If used in conjunction with the speed boost from Pegasus seeds Link can leap great distances allowing him to clear long gaps. Link finds the feather in the wing dungeon during the past age. While the dungeon theoretically exists in the present, its entrance collapses just as Link finds it in the fairy woods. This is actually the first dungeon that Link has to travel through time to find. As a side note, jumping/flying items are my absolute favorite type of items in the zelda franchise, so the roc’s feather occupies a special place in my heart.

While most shun the inner places of the silver fields, some choose to spend their entire lives communing with the spirits of the silver. Living for years in the harmful vapors and invasive silver mutates a person’s appearance, especially their mouth as it must be exposed to silver infused foods and water. On the rare occasions when these hermits have uncorrupted guests or travel to the lands untouched by the silver, they hide their face with fans or scarves.

Strange Flute: The strange flute is one flute that can be used to summon one of three animal companions depending on how Link obtains the flute. If Link wins the flute from the shooting gallery, buys it from the market, or is given it by an animal companion. When Link plays the flute before finding an animal companion it does nothing but play a tune. When I played this game as a kid, I had no idea that there was a hidden choice tree that determined which animal companion Link met in his travels. When Link forms a bond of friendship with an animal companion, the strange flute changes to reflect that friendship, allowing Link to summon their aid when he plays the new flute.

Some players of the didgeridoo enter a trance-like state when playing for extended periods. In these trances, they are able to send their spirit from their body to explore the dangers of the silver fields. Not even a spirit is entirely safe from all the hazards in the deepest passages beneath the silver fields.

With the holiday season descending upon the U.S. in full force I may be interrupted in posting regularly. I’ll try to keep the schedule as this is more about me enjoying the time it takes to draw and write than other people knocking down my door for more item cards.

Please use these personally however you see fit, but do not profit off my efforts or the intellectual property of others without the owner’s specific consent.

While many people may love this time of year, it is a challenging time for many. With that in mind, be excellent to everyone.
