Not an artist: The first six items from Oracle of Seasons wielded by zealots and crusaders.

The first six items from Oracle of Seasons wielded by zealots and crusaders.

Wooden Sword: In Oracle of Seasons, Link finds the wooden sword in the depths of the Hero’s Cave in the Western Coast of Holodrum. This means that the wooden sword is technically the first dungeon item in Oracle of Seasons. In a linked game where Link has already fought through the dangers threatening Labrynna, Link begins the game with the wooden sword and the Hero’s Cave becomes optional.

The theme I worked within for the items from Oracle of Seasons was the elements. I usually stuck with the four classical elements from western mysticism, but I didn’t follow that for every item in the set. With that in mind, the wooden sword was an earth element weapon, so I drew one of my favorite weapons from all of fantasy as it technically had a stone head.

The Hammers of the Bright Path are a rigid militaristic order founded to protect all from the influences of beings they refer to only as the Fallen Guides. The Hammers believe that once a being or place has been tainted by the Fallen Guides, it is irredeemable. With their crystal weapons channeling the light of the Bright Path, the Hammers utterly destroy anything they deem beyond saving.

Noble Sword: The Noble Sword is the final reward for completing the trading quest throughout Holodrum. We will cover each item in the trading quest in due course. At the conclusion of the quest, Link is given directions to navigate through the Lost Woods toward a secret clearing with the magic sword stuck in a pedestal. A 16(?)bit take on a classic scene from the Zelda franchise. In a linked game, Link can also receive the Noble Sword by passing a secret from an Old Woman in Labrynna to an Old Man beneath the Clock Shop in Holodrum’s Horon Village.

As this sprite for the Noble Sword is red, it was taken as a fire weapon, so I went with another one of my favorite weapons from all of fantasy. One of my players is currently playing a treefolk druid that loves flame. They were the proud recipient of the flaming sickle known as Summer’s Harvest.

This wicked blade was crafted by the leader of a great city of crafters as a wedding gift for the champion that was able to unite all the families and overthrow foreign invaders. The blade’s keen edge and everburning flame helped the champion lead their people into a golden age of unity that was abruptly cut short when the champion’s three closest advisors conspired to assassinate the champion during the chaos of battle. The advisors then divided the newly united people so that each could rule absolutely in their own realm. It has been prophesied that the champion’s spirit will be reincarnated again and again until justice for their slaying is served.

Thank you for checking out the beginning of the items from Oracle of Seasons. This set was the first set where I ended up really enjoying the majority of the drawings. I can also really start to see my personal style begin to show through as I get used to how I like to do pen and ink style illustrations in Photoshop. I also started coloring some of the item illustrations in this set, so every once in a while I will take a step back and post color versions of items I have already posted. I hope you are all ready for a trek through the items from my favorite handheld Zelda game.

The world is still super crazy. I haven’t actually written a blog post in a while as I pre-wrote posts for a few weeks, and the world hasn’t calmed down or gotten better. I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone that every person has a right to live a life free from suffering, persecution, and discrimination. Being asked to not persecute, harm, or discriminate against someone is not persecution, harm, or discrimination. We should all have the right to freely express ourselves until our expressions impeded on the life and expressions of others.

Also, everyone in the U.S. should celebrate Indigenous People's Day rather than Columbus Day tomorrow as Columbus was a shitty human being.

Be excellent to everyone.
