I'm not an artist: Five items from Oracles of Ages used by gladiators fighting in an intergalactic arena.

Five items from Oracles of Ages used by gladiators fighting in an intergalactic arena.

Iron Shield: In a reference to the opening of Link’s Awakening, Link is caught in a storm while sailing in the open sea and washes ashore a strange island. When he wakes up, he finds that he has lost all of his belongings to enterprising gecko-folk thieves. To recover his things, he must chase down the thieves who went to ground all over Crescent Island. When he confronts the thief who took his wooden shield, they give Link a more durable iron shield instead of the wooden shield he actually took.

Nomad scavengers are credited with the first use of the duranium bulkhead as an improvised battle shield. As duranium is nearly indestructible these shields are able to survive almost any hazard in the arena. A few of the shields in circulation are among the first few brought to the arena by nomad champions eager for glory.

Mirror Shield: Like the master sword, the mirror shield in Oracle of Ages is the best shield available and can only be obtained using the secrets shared through a linked game. Traveling through the western coast of Holodrum Link can meet a ghost who says they were once a librarian in the esteemed Eyeglass Library in Labrynna where they learned a secret so terrible they were struck dead just by hearing it. When Link tells an Old Man he knows the secret, the Old Man offers to upgrade Link’s shield in exchange for his silence.

Hard-light barrier emitters are some of the most desired pieces of tech in the verse. The ultra-light shields are equally effective in intercepting conventional and energy weapons. The emitters can even be modified to project a blade instead of a shield. The emitters can overload if they block objects moving too fast or from concentrated bursts of energy.

Power Bracelet: Link can find the power bracelet in the Spirit’s Grave, the tomb themed dungeon at the center of the Yoll Graveyard. Link gets to practice using the great strength provided by the bracelet when he has to throw around a giant unbreakable pumpkin a ghost is wearing like armor.

Even with a name like the conqueror’s belt, owning this leather harness is not in the least bit prestigious in the fighting circles. This belt is given to the fighter who wins the crowd’s favor by losing exhibition matches in spectacular fashion. Even though this belt has been enchanted to strengthen the wearer, fighters would prefer a nice piece of tech over an enchanted slab of leather.

Power Glove: The final dungeon item discovered by Link is a gauntlet of strength that gives him the strength required to lift even large stone statues. Link can find the glove in the Ancient Tomb, a tomb themed dungeon in the past era that is in the same general region of Labrynna where the Yoll graveyard is in the current era. Perhaps the Ancient Tomb is buried far beneath the Yoll graveyard. The Spirit’s Grave may even share a common wall with the forgotten tomb.

Even in the exhibition matches that are intended to be non-lethal, the loss of limbs is not uncommon. As such, cybernetic prosthetics are a common sight among seasoned fighters. The replacements are often an improvement on the original limbs, but replacing too much of the original body can destabilize the mind

I found it was much more difficult to draw technological items than I expected when I started this theme. The shapes needed to imply the exacting precision involved with modern fabrication techniques were difficult to execute.

Please use my work personally however you see fit, but do not profit off my efforts without my consent.

Be excellent to everyone.
