Gimli's axe joins the Fellowship of Axe Week.
Gimli’s Axe: Gimili, son of Gloin, fought with the Fellowship of the Ring during the War of the Ring. His axe felled many of Sauron’s forces, especially during the bloody siege of Helm’s deep. In the peace that followed the War of the Ring, Gimli led many of his folk to establish a new home in the Glittering Caves beneath Helm’s Deep.
Gimli is probably the trope creator for dwarves with axes. Not that cave and mine inhabiting Dwarves using axes as their iconic weapon makes a lot of sense. I’d imagine they’d use picks or at least pickaxes. Regardless, it is an established fantasy trope for dwarves to love axes, and here on Axe Week we just go with the flow.
One might think that my love for axes means I am a big dwarf fan, but I’ve never felt the deep connection with dwarves that some fantasy enthusiasts clearly have.
