Three useful axes.
Fire Axe: Need to get through an obstacle in an emergency? That obstacle might be a door in a burning building or an unexpected assailant in an urban fight scene. No matter the obstacle, a conveniently paced fire axe is your answer. Found behind glass in a hallway near you.
While not explicitly referencing one specific axe, using the emergency fire axe in an action or horror movie is a time-tested trope. It is a reasonably accessible object that is an effective enough semi-improvised weapon.
Overlook hotel axe: If your emergency is that you have been pushed into madness by ghosts that hope to claim your child’s psychic powers, you should immediately go outside into the blizzard to die. If you aren’t willing to sacrifice yourself to save your family, you may end up, axe in hand, terrorizing your family throughout an abandoned hotel. Try not to be that guy though.
Full disclosure, I didn’t draw the background on this. I looked up the texture for the carpet in the hotel from The Shining and just found a paper texture version I liked. It was late and I wanted to get this repaint finished before bed.
The Woodcutter’s axe: If your emergency is having accidentally cut off your leg, you should replace that leg with a tin leg. You should also consider chopping off other parts of your body and replacing them with other tin prosthetics. Note, if you succumb fully to the curse placed upon your axe and chop apart your entire self, leaving only a hollow tin replica, you may feel an overwhelming longing to somehow recapture your humanity.
While these three axes are effectively recolors of the same lineart, with minor changes here and there, I am particularly proud of how the Emerald City background for the Tin Man’s axe turned out. I’ve never read the Oz books so I don’t know the Tin Man’s full story, but his axe jumped to mind when I thought of important pop culture axes.
----------
Today on Axe Week you got three axes from the price of one. Tomorrow we are back to just one axe, but, it is double sided. See you next time on Axe Week.
Be excellent to everyone.
